i just bought a 93 dodge ram with a Cummings. the transmission was broken when i bought it. when i pulled it apart a realized that the front input-shaft/gear had no teeth on it. i started to buy parts and put it back together when i realized also that the front bottom bearing was also shot! the bearing melted to the shaft and and gear and worn the case of the transmission down. (that is why the gear lost it's teeth). i need to know if the transmission is worth fixing (that i was told it isn't) and if not (that i think) what do you suggest i get. i want to keep it manual. :{

Please i need a lot of help!!!!!!!!!

You might look into getting a NV4500 and doing a conversion. THey have their own problems, though. Someone here had mentioned going with an Eaton 7 speed, which is a little more (OK a LOT more) involved, but the route I may go if I need to. Doesnt sound like your transmission is rebuildable, though there are those here who have a lot more knowledge and expertise in this area than I. Where are you located? I know a few guys here in Poplar Bluff who may be able to find one for a decent price.

The NV4500 conversion is what most go to. The main thing to watch for is the NV4500 had problems with the 5th gear nut backing off. That has been solved with a revised gear shaft (full splines to support 5th gear) and retaining nut. As long as the conversion you get makes use of the revised transmission you shouldn't have any problems. Quad 4X4 has such a kit and have many happy users on the forum, there are others out there.

:p Hey bud, you can use your clutch set up with an adapter bell housing from www.advanceadapters.com or call them at 1 800 3502223 and get their instruction book and catalog. I have all the stuff to do the job, however my getrag saw the parts on the bench and cured itself temporarilly. Somethings to keep in mind if you go this route, so let us know. Tim
