Was looking and thinking about how to extend the life of that POS Getrag 5-speed.

Just rebuilt it not long ago. She is working fine and I am glad it didn't quit to far from home.

Anyway, was looking in Geno's garage at them transmission accessories.

Thinking about going halfs with a friend on the aluminum PTO cover cooling lid on the drivers side.

Then go with the little filter cover on the passenger (exhaust side)

I already have a magnet glued on the bottom of the inside section of the transmission. You can check it from the bottom drain hole if you have little girl fingers like me.

Then of course overfill it with Amsoil 15-40 as usual.

What do you fella's think about that or what have you done to yours to extend the life? Thats a lot of money for the aluminum side. I could do a couple fluid and filter changes with that coin and maybe just as well off.

Whats your thoughts?

[Was looking and thinking about how to extend the life of that POS Getrag 5-speed. ] I would first drain the 15w40 and put 4. 5-5qts of 5w30 synthetic motor oil in. 5w30 is the 'proper' lube. But of course some have run with success a bunch of different lubes. Bill

I just changed mine and I use 5w30 Mobil 1. With the aluminum Fast cooler on the left side, I can get 6. 5 qts. in if I use the top bolt on the right side of the pto cover and park the truck so it is sloping (15 %?) to the left side. So far so good w/120,000 miles.

Ditto with the overfill with the oil of your choice (no war here!) and the filter and you could put the filter on both sides for more lube. Just extra insurance. Tim

I like the 15-40 full synthetic.

I figure with all the miles and wear and tear there is more clearance in there.

The Pour Point on Amsoil is still probably better than most other brands for those cold starts.

GLHS I noticed that Geno's garage offers the side cooler in Pairs. I didn't know you could just buy one.

Do you have the other one?

I be interested in buying it!
