Hello all new here to the forum! I went to look at a 1993 12 valve 5 speed today and the transmission wont shift into 3rd and 5th at all after the trans has warmed up! When you first take off after starting it it will shift all the way to fifth gear but when you go to shift down it wont go into 4th or 3rd. what can this be?? Please help as I'm considering buying it anyway and fixing the trans. over all its a beautiful truck!! The engine is sound... Thanks

The syncros are going out it wil probably shift but you will have to double clutch , pest thingbto do is to get a NV4500 or a NV5600 to swap in it

I don't want to cut a new hole in the floor unless it can make it look like it should have came from the factory... are these transmission and worth rebuilding?

The Getrag was a ok trans and if the case is not damaged there and you dont plan on turning the truck up a lot or towing heavy you would be fine getting it rebuilt but a NV 4500 is a all round better trans especially if you want to add power or tow a lot. as for looking factory here is my truck with a 4500 in it

When you say it won't shift what do you mean? Does it grind or is it like the stick hits a brick wall? Sometimes a poor shifting transmission can be blamed on a poor releasing clutch. When the transmission is cold the oil resistance will help the clutch release but when the transmission is warm the resistance goes away.
