Maybe someone out there has gone thru this. . i replaced all of the bearings on the transmission main shaft without changing anything else and discovered it would not bolt back up to the existing dimensions... ... any experience out there with bearing kits with a big surprise or two? does anyone have a getrag 360 repair manuual they want to sell me?

not ready to throw in the towl just yet..... ray

The factory 93 dodge truck service manual has all the info for the Getrag, as far as I know that is the only place that does. Maybe there is a "First Gen" guy near you that has one or maybe a library or your local "Stealer" would let you copy the pages you need.

No experience with transmission repairs sorry:(

Not sure what you mean by "bolt back up to original" . Do you mean that that the entire unit will not bolt into the truck? or the main shaft will not go back in the case? Worked on trannys for 10 years but 15 years ago. Sure I can help if I understand your issue better.

THANKS FELLAS, I OPENED IT BACK UP TONIGHT AND REPRESSED THE BEARINGS & THEY HAD NOT SEATED WITH THE 1st 5TONS, so I CRANKED MY PRESS TO 15 TONS AND HEARD A POP NOISE SO that extra gap caused the tailhousing to not seat flush with the case... i have no guidance on main shaft bearing preload so i need to consult you guys or a factory manual, I'll take up all of the slop on the input shaft, but not tight enough to cause the main shaft to bind?

any thoughts on this?...

this is the 1st 5sp i've had apart, and the main assembly is so dam heavy, i've already crushed my hands once and dropped it off my press, fortunatly i had placed some soft material to catch the fall,

this will be going into a 56 int. travell-all, if i'm sucessfull

again thanks to those responding so fast

I know this is of no help at all, but I would love to see some pics of that truck when you get done. I think that the Travelall is one of the neatest old trucks around and my Dad had a couple when I was growing up. .

I'll see what i can do to post some pics of the 56 travel-all, it is still apart, with the front end piece and frame seperated and with the 6bt sitting on the frame rails... . i'll work on this photo post asap
