Here's the question we're all asking. Do I buy the 275 injectors or the EZ Edge (or equivalent) first? I've heard pro's and con's for both. I want to get the biggest bang and value for the buck. Meaning, what is going to give me great HP, good fuel mileage, and being nice to my auto transmission.

Fire away boys. :D

Get the Comp but don't hook up the pump wire. That way you won't have to upgrade to a new box after you get your transmission updated. Believe me, you'll be wanting more once you get a taste. Might want to think about gauges too!!

I would go with the EZ first, then a clutch or DTT upgrade, then go to the 275's. Especially if you tow, this will make a sweet setup. I don't see the need for the Comp, especially if you're still under warranty, but to each his own.

BTW- Don't assume that an EZ alone or set of injectors can't or won't cause transmission problems. IF you already have a weak clutch, you can slip it with just an EZ. Trust me I know. :{

Steve,

Once you start you will want more. . I know all about this.

I started with just looking for a few little things and now I have a set of DDII's which I am going to replace with DDIII's, a Comp box that I am sending in for the Drag upgrade, braided lines and webber fittings. I am waiting for my new Piers HX-40 to get here. But I don't really town anything heavy.

I just got the SunCoast upgrades done to my trans and love it.

If possible I would try to get together with people in your area that have bombed trucks and see what you like.

If you are going to get injectors I would just go straight to the DDII's or even the III's

As for the Ez I would just get the Comp and leave the pump wire off for now. Just make sure you start saving for the trans upgrades cause you will need them soon.

4.10s?

Hey Bill,

Are you running 4. 10s with those 36"s? I am running 37" with 3. 54's and am planning on going to your same mod setup ie. . dd3's pdr hx40 etc. . and just wondering if I will need to still upgrade to 4. 10 r and p.

mods

Well if your going to bomb it then do it the first time around and it will save you money and time. Start with the comp box, then dd2’s, and with the turbo on your 2001 plan on getting a pdr hx35 14cm or buy the 14cm housing because it will run hot with the 9 cm housing that you have. I don’t want to make anyone mad that reads this but I would get a bd t/c, suncoast kit with a transgo valve body kit too. Now with all that said the main thing to install is your gauges. You are going to need to whatch what is going on at all times with any mode you do. If you do all of this throw in a 7 psi pusher pump to make it happy. I hope this helps but if not sorry. Have fun !! :D

ETC's respond better to boxes. Only you can answer to, and be responsible for, your actions once you start down the dark side of BOMBING. It's kinda like a disease, the bug just keeps spreading. If you have zero credit card balances, don't care about your warranty and a significant other that understands, then I would go with the Comp, leave the wire unhooked, transmission upgrade, meaning at a minimum a performance TC and VB, and DD2's in that order and then when out of warranty hook up comp wire and let er rip. If you have great will-power, and want the mileage, power and best bang for the buck, then just go with the EZ and transmission will probably be ok, but I would still recommend a VB.

You guys are evil, just plain evil! My Visa trigger finger is starting to twitch.

The common thread I'm seeing here is gauges, Comp, DDII, and torque converter, in that order.

Believe me, I know what I'm getting into. I've been real conservative until now, but even the little bit of tinkering I've been doing is addictive. I plan on having this truck for a long time, and I plan on being aggressive with my plan.

Thanks for all of your input.

If you talk to Keith at Diesel Dynamics he'll tell that a box will smoke your transmission well before a set of injectors will. I've been in their shop twice in the last week and had various forms of this conversation both times; heard the same thing each time (reference box or injectors). That being said, you prolly should just become resigned to the fact that if you're gonna bomb the cost of a good auto should be factored in for sooner or later.

Good luck, gotta go put in my new IAT sensor.
