Getting '77 Ford F150 for my kids to learn on

I found a running 77 F150 2x4 with the 4 sp manual trans. No tailgate. New glass. No rust. Three dents. Poor interior. Wont idle well. For $650. Going for it this weekend.

I want to teach my kids to wrench and how to troubleshoot on a pre-computer vehicle.

I probably will clean the carb right away and hope that gets it idling.

Anyone else have one of these trucks?

That's probably my favorite generation of Ford trucks. I don't own one, but I do have a Chevy from the same generation. It really will be a good project vehicle for your kids.

Years ago, my father brought me home an old Chevy Blazer that had been stolen, wrecked, and stripped. It took me the better part of a year to get it on the road. But, along the way, I learned quite a bit about basic bodywork, wiring, and mechanical repair during the process. Hopefully your kids will appreciate this opportunity.

Well I brought it home. $600.
It does run rough.
Won't idle, will only run with gas pedal depressed.

Anyone know of a good Classic Ford Truck forum? I have found several, but they don't seem to have the volume that I am used to here on TDR

Nice! Perfect vehicle for them to cut their teeth on. I have a 70's jeep in the building for much the same reason.

I would say shoot your questions out here in the "Other vehicles" forum. Lot of good folks on here and I bet you would get a decent response on most of your questions. You will up your responses if you find a 4bt and shove that in! Then the thing would also be economical to drive!
