You know the picture... ... ... ... .

The IT support guys in the office have shut down the company firewall, so anything remotely ENTERTAINING from the internet is deemed off-limits... . and I'm not thinking about XXX-rated material here either... . just regular music and I've found a small website in SE Asia where they've got a pretty good Rock selection playing back to back, plus several other categories/musical genres... .

Heads-Up... ... ... .....

Whilst I was on assigment in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, earlier this year, I came across a local website, which is broadcasting MUSIC over the internet, but does not use a c o n v e n t i o n a l TCP/IP socket..... in other words: it is Firewall-savvy ;) ;) ;) ;) he he he!!

The only downside is, that you have to register some details to receive content, so as long as you remember to be "economic" with the truth and tell that your current address is something like 1600, Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington D. C: (Cheers Dubya!) USofA, you're in!!!!

Here's the link guys... . right now they're playing Dire Straits back to back with Stevie Winwood 2045GMT 2 May 2002

Normally companies will block "streaming" connections, like video, audio, napster mp3 & stuff like that in their firewall or proxy server.

If they dont block it, they may be allowing access, and logging it so they can identify who's screwing around instead of working. Be careful. Ive seen ALOT of people lose their jobs for downloading porn, or sending off hate mail while at work. We just shake our heads at the things people will risk their good jobs over.

Usually they will still pass HTTP (webpages), but block inappropriate sites (xxx, hate, whatever) by name of the site, or use filters that look for dirty words.

Alot of times you can set your real player, to use only "HTTP" and it'll work. Also, theres sites that use HTTP, and java to pass music. One example is http://worldclassrock.com (something like that).

Most proxies will pass it, unless the site itself is blocked.

But if they want, they can block just about anything, but they really limit their flexibility. We get alot of info off of the internet that directly pertains to our work. If they block http, they block a major resource of info.

Our firewall gives a daily report on web usage. If we see a certain site downloading huge amounts of data, we will look into it. With our limited pipe (T1) we can't have people using streaming media or we WILL get complaints from the higher-ups that their connection is slow.

Back when it was necessary for me to "bypass" the company firewall for legit work purposes there were a couple of sites that you could go to and get out from there. One was wormhole.com or something like that. Of course once you got out a little music downloading didn't hurt:D .

I used to look at whatever I wanted, but now some guys at work got fired. I have no idea how I didnt!!!:D

Now if something is questionable, it'll pop up a screen that says something about "could contain matter that's in violation of company policy". :(

In our old puters, we had something called "network agent DDA" or something close to this.

I dont know how they track where you've been now, but I suppose it's with the cookies. I dump the cookies after each day at work, am I wasting my time doing this? I also delete the history, even though we cant go to the "questionable" sites anymore. :D
