For the next set of tires I plan to change from LT265-70R17 to LT285-75R17. As I figure it, the new tires will cause the speedometer and odometer readings to be off by around 6%. To get the speedometer and odometer reprogrammed to match the new tire size do I need to go to a Dodge dealer or can most any service shop do the job?

I know the dealer will do it, dont know about other shops, probably just depends on the shop. Get a smarty, it'll do it:-laf

I really did mean LT285-75R17. Check the Toyo-Canada web site. I found out about these tires from another TDR member on this forum. Some of Toyo's specs are 33. 8" dia, 3968# load rating, 11. 7" section width on 8" rim. Sounds good to me. What do you think?

A local (San Diego area) tire dealer says he can get them for me.

Glenn[/QUOTE That's going to be an ideal sized tire. Love my "70" series Toyos but an inch taller would have been nice.

I would check you speed against a GPS unit before you go changing your odometer calibration. I more or less thought the same thing and then I checked it against the GPS and found out I am now withing 1mph at 70 with the bigger tires. I went for the factory 265 to 285 tires. I never check it against the factory tires but now i think I was running about 5mph under actual speed at 70mph.

Be certain to call around dealerships to get prices on resetting your pinion factor. I wouldn't recommend just going to a dealer and telling them to get your speedo right because they will bend you over a barrel and will take pleasure in doing it.

Dealerships suck

We do this to Jeep Rubicons all the time it's done with the DRB scan tool through the instrument cluster settings we have been trying out scanners from the tool trucks to see if any of them can get into the instrument cluster with no luck yet. let me know if you find someone who can do it without the DRB tool.
