I hardly ever use my 2000 3500 so I figured I would replace it with something cheaper that I can still work hard if I need to. Its a 91. 5 I assume as it is intercooled. Its a w250 I assume(3/4 ton single wheel) with a 5-speed. It runs really really good, only real issue is a slight rough idle which I bet is coming from the #2 injector thats leaking a little bit. The Getrag is a little noisy but works just fine. The speedo is crazy, but the odometer still works. It was owned by a tire shop that took good care of it mechanicly, its a little rough on the outside but will suit my needs great. I am sure I will have some questions soon :).

I did something similar... I went back to the first gen trucks. Better fuel mileage and overall I feel better built than some of the later trucks. Let us know how it works out for you.

Well old beauty is in the driveway now :). I drove her home with the AC on and jammed out to the radio. Its not such a pretty animal but it will do. Its got the typical peeling white paint and the bed is pretty rough. I figured for $900 I did ok :). Hell I split it with a good friend of mine because we will use it to haul jeeps that we buy and sell, so I really only have 450 in it. I will get some pictures of it here in a few.

Only running issue is a rough idle, its got a pretty good shake to it at idle. Its smooths out under a load so I am thinking its just a dirty injector maybe. It does have a small leak at the numer #2 injector which I assume could cause the problem. Looks like I will need a crows foot to get the injectors loose which I currently do not have. Any free mods or tweeks to help it along a little bit? Thanks for any info.

Remove the fuel lines and use a socket.

Read the "stickys" ... the permanant threads listed on top in our section.

My 90 shakes and rattles at slow idle. One would be led to believe it has a performance cam. At 312,000 on the OEM injectors it's easy to understand why.

Once I get the thing out on the road it really shines. Operates smooth as silk and at 10/15 psi she just starts to hunker down and feel at home on the road.

Enjoy!

Sounds like a decent truck for $900. It's getting hard to find deals like that anymore. Of course, I still got ya beat, $250 for an '89 w250 with a plow :D

Will a bed from a half ton work? I found a white long bet D150 hit in the front for $250 that will take care of ALOT of the ugly problem mine has :).

got 'er home !!

Went down this morning with lil' bro in the 4 Runner and drove her home!! Oo. Runs and drives superb! 240 miles so far on about 10 gallons, criuse was set at about 70 most of the way. Upon arrival at her new home, I immediately got out the aluminum polish and did a quikie on the wheels... what a difference!! tried to take pics as the sun went down, came out like doodoo, will get some tomorrow!!! So far, so good!!

Check your tach... you want an idle of approx 800-850 RPM.

If you don't have a tach start the truck and check the drivers door mirror... if it's 'a wigglin' then your idle is at or below 700 RPM.

Raise the idle till the 'wigglin' stops and then a touch more. You will be so close to 'just right' you'll be surprised... .

Before you jump for new nozzles, run a good double dose of additive thru the ole' girl.

bob... .

Thanks for the Info Bob. I think the rough idle might have actually been coming from lack of use. Drove it last night again and its gotten considerably better. I will throw some additive in it this weekend and pull that bed donor truck with it to hopefully clean it out some.

Clark, make up a batch of 1/ 2 Lucas injector cleaner and 1/2 Marvel mystery Oil and put 2 qts of this in your tank and fill to brim... . then drive her hard!!!!

Sounds like a good idea.

Have another question, there is something mounted on the injection pump that has a spade connector on it. Its unplugged but the wire for it is hanging right next to it. It has a tube running back into the injection pump near the smoke screw it looks like. What is that, and what will happen if I plug it back in lol.

LOL in the camera, hell after you posting those pics I don't want to post pictures of mine :D. Did you get that off of E-bay?

Aww, come on Clark, it has a Cummins in it, how bad could it be, right guys!! (and gals) Yes, it was an ebay truck.

That is your KSB (cold start advance). Cuts your blue/white smoke at cold start up in colder (<60deg) weather.
