OK Guy’s I’m getting closer to talking myself into installing my stuff and tweaking the pump but I need a little hand holding. I have decided to go ahead and do this before I get the transmission work done to see if I’m happy with it. If I feel it is too hard on the transmission I will take it back to stock until I get the work done.
I installed the BHAF a couple of days ago and have been watching the gauges. My EGT’s dropped 75* at 70mph cruising no load and 100* WOT. Boost at both these is down 1. 5lbs. Does that sound right?
The next item will be the turbo housing. I don’t want to do any changes to the pump until I change out the injectors. I take it this is okay. Let me know if anyone thinks otherwise.
Now when I change the injectors I’m thinking it would be best to change them and drive it around a little bit to make sure it is running smoothly before jumping into the pump. Does this sound right?
Having done the above what is the best way to proceed with the pump? What would you guys recommend as the initial settings? Do I make one adjustment at a time? What order should I do these in? Has anyone taken pictures detailing these procedures? Any tips to make things go as smooth as possible?
List of pump tweaks.
1. Smoke screw
2. Eccentric pin
3. Star wheel
4. Power screw
5. Engine timing
6. ???
I read somewhere there is a nylon stop under the eccentric pin that can be shaved down to allow more travel. Should I consider this or wait until I have gone through the initial steps and fine adjustments.
Can the engine timing be set with a standard dial indicator on a magnetic base or is a special indicator needed?
Anything I've missed?
