i am looking around at things and i can get my arm in and under neath from the driver's fender... .

questions:

fwd of the fuel filter i see a section of hose with a clamp. what is it? return or supply? i am guessing return...

behind the filter i see a goodyear line that has a bend in it and i can get to the clamp on that. is this the same line? or am i finding the upper ends of both the supply and return?

how exactly does the brake booster, etc. "swing" out of the way? where are the bolts that i need to take loose? and how does it "swing"?

thanks.

scott.

The line you're seeing behind and forward of the filter is the return. The clamp is on the forward side.

To move the master cylinder remove the two nuts that hold it, they are obvious, pull the large hose off the booster, pull the mc forward till it clears the studs then pull it towards the driver's side.

Since your pulling the starter you could install Larry B's contacts. The contact install is a 15min job. You may need a dremel for one of the rear fuel line clamps. I had one clamp installed by the factory that was a compression style. Be careful too only cut so far. This would also be a great time to inspect/service the fuel preheater and replace the liftpump hose. I believe Cummins has the best price for the fuel preheater kit.

By removing the starter and disconnecting the front drive line, which are both pretty easy to do, I was able to replace both hoses relatively easy. I saved the hose clamps because they were in good condition and are the type that don't cut into the rubber.

My 96' came with the type of hose clamps that do cut into the hose. I had to use all new clamps. Must be a year to year thing.

i need to do this to but which line do i replace? both? and what type of line do you replace them with? i mean where did you get the parts? there is a cummins house down the road from me but i was thinkin maybe napa would have the hoses...

Regular fuel line should definately hold up to diesel fuel, but I would get the marine fuel hose from a place like West Marine. It is heat resistant and should not cook itself to death as the stock hose does. I believe one line is 5/16" and one 3/8". Only need less than 2 feet of each.

Good luck.
