i never want to get stranded because of a lift pump problem on my 03 again. i happened once in the middle of the forest and that was enough. i waited two days for a 4 wheel flat bed to be able to bet to me, and when he did the pump decided to start working. i drove home. the pump would run, but will not fill the fuel canister with fuel. this was 10,000 miles ago and have not had any problems. dealer says "its ok" and will not replace the pump because it is working and has been working.

what can i do. FASS?, other options. i am open to anything. the pump part number changes three times in the 03's, are they there different pumps that don't work.

is the fass the only solution?
No - there are others. Diesel Dynamics offers a kit that uses a Carter pump that you mount on the frame rail. It bypasses the stock lift pump, but retains the stock fuel filter and canister. This pump flows more than the stocker, is more reliable, and is MUCH easier to change out if it ever becomes necessary (you could swap this pump on the side of the road in about 20 minutes easily. Unless you're a contortionist, you'd never be able to do that with a stock lift pump).

I'd seriously consider an outboard setup - either a pusher as is common on the 2nd generation trucks, or one like the FASS - getting stuck out in the woods or similar remote location is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned, if there are reasonable preventative measures - and there are!

Ive had two trucks with lift pumps. One had 140K other had 65K. Both had the original pumps. But when in doubt throw money at it>

To purchase the lift pump thru the dealer cost about $650 and took almost 2 weeks to get the bloody thing, what are the costs for these aftermarket solutions?

I was also told I couldn't purchase one to carry around as a spare since it was a STAR part
