It hard to beleave that we have come that far

The diesel engine may and could take the place of the gasoline engine In the fucture. The gas engine still has a long way to go In fuel mileage. The public want 50 miles per gallon. Diesel has come close to that In the diesel In the VW. As you know It hard to get the fuel mileage that on the window sticker. Cummins I think Is the leader In the Diesel small truck.

hmm. . i wonder if they make a big enough front end to stuff that in a pick up! that engine is massive... what do they use it for?

Marine application's, mostly for alternatives to steam powered ships. Lots of freight ships, as well as commercial oilers use these.

The only thing more powerful is gas turbine for power to weight ratio of the engine. I'd settle for 1/2 the size diesel in this link to replace the cast iron anchor we had onboard the amphib LSD I served in the Navy on. It was a steam powered pile of garbage. We felt like we were the white trash trailer park of the fleet, (then again, we were).

I bet by now, the hull is serving a second life as razor blades and shaving down Roseanne Bar and Rosie Odonnell's cottage cheese thighs.

Fuel economy is much better, thats why it has pistons instead of blades. At 102 rpm you dont need a reduction gear either. 50% fuel efficientcy is state of the art. :)

Some facts on the 14 cylinder version:

Total engine weight: 2300 tons (The crankshaft alone weighs 300 tons. )

Length: 89 feet

Height: 44 feet

Maximum power: 108,920 hp at 102 rpm

Maximum torque: 5,608,312 lb/ft at 102rpm

This piece of machinery is very amazing. I saw a show about it on the History Channel.

I love it!

Where's the pull cord?

Dkarvwnaris- Any idea how to get the Rosanne imagery out of my head now!

Nope, maybe you just need to admit she's more woman than you can handle and embrace it :-laf

I thought the most powerful engine was used in Natural gas pumping? Up in Clinton county PA they built a pump station several years ago and it was the most powerful engine in its time. They pump the gas up from Texas, then pump it back into the ground (gas wells that ran out years ago) in central PA as a reserve for the NE US.

Of course the engine shown in the link above says something about largest moving engine. the natural gas engine don't move.

Oh She is, she is.

Hey I "talked" with you about my sloppy steering a while back. (My name changed from AndersonG)

I picked up a steering shaft but haven't installed it yet.

I did the front brakes and discovered a loose bearing. Tightening that, helped out the steering some, but still not good.

Take care
