Well after 50k, bad ball joints and a f'ed up alignment for a while, it is getting to be time for new tires.

While I really have not had any problems with the Michelins that came stock, I'm looking for suggestions of long wearing, good fuel mileage, decent traction for Michigan winters, smooth ride (kinda asking for the world eh?)

This is the first set of tires for this truck so I would like to hear what others are using and are satisfied with for a point in the right direction.

I rarely tow heavy but do haul pretty heavy in the bed often ( drywall, lumber landscaping stuff etc).

Thanks

I have been very impressed with the manners of the Bridgestone Dueler AT REVOS. They are great dry, rain, and very good in snow. They do lack in the mud department though. They are good offroad as well. My first set lasted me right at 60k and had it been spring I would have waited until fall to replace them. They are quiet too. Unfortunately I spend more time in the mud on our property in the spring than these tires like so I may try switching to the toyo m55's next time around. Not sure on those yet though as I have heard good and bad things about them. I may stick with the revos yet again and just watch the mud.

If you're happy with the stock Michelin's, stick with them. They gave me great fuel mileage and decent wear. My problem with them was that they would spin if I ran over some bird whizz! It was embarrassing to start off from an intersection in the rain and I still had a stock truck at that point. Now I run the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's. They are a great tire for rain and snow on the road and pretty good off the road too (only for firewood and hunting so I wouldn't consider myself an "off-roader"). I did lose maybe 1 mpg when I switched. Good luck.

The TOYO Open Country M/T's are the best tires I've ever bought. A bit $pendy, but they are E rated (important if you haul)/tow) and have beefy sidewalls plus great agressive lugs, are low noise, slow wearing, & great looking.

Haven't tried the TOYO A/T's but if you don't wan't mudders they should be a good option.

Mickey Thompson Baha Radial GTX, 8-ply but nice, slightly aggressive AT tread. No noise yet. A little cheaper than the REVO's (my second choice).

I sure have been happy with the Michelin XPS Rib's on my dually. Next time around I'm going to try the Michelin XPS Traction's though.

I had the Michelin LTX M&S and they were a good long wearing quiet tire, but lacked a litte in mud. Just recently replaced them with the Michelin XPS Traction and then did a 4000 mile roadtrip. They are a very good tire and will probably stay with them from now on. They have an all steel casing, not just a belt. JMTCW

I went from the stockers to 285 Pro Comp A/Ts, ride well, no real road noise over any other larger tire. They hook up better than the stockers too, and now I even have an EZ to give it a little more.

***By the way, 4Wheel Parts runs specials buy 3 get one free on these all the time***

I just put a set of XPS tractions on my dually and am really impressed with the ride quality, durability, and off road performance. Deep lugs, thick sidewalls, and very reputable (just do a search on "XPS Traction). Kinda pricey, but worth it IMHO.

just put new ones on last week.

I went with the Dueler AT Revo in the 265/75/16 Loadrange E flavor, after hearing raving comments about them.

Glad to hear that more of you guys have had luck with them (especially in the rain and snow)

:)

Wade, did you mean, MTX? If so, I was wondering how they performed on wet roads and how badly they pickup gravel???? I was kind of figuring that they should perform real well on wet pavement with all that siping in each lug. Also, what size do you have? I'm considering switching from my BFG 295 All-Terrains to 285 M/T MTXs.

BTW, if I remember correctly, Willy Worthy of Four Wheeler Magazine did an evaluation of these tires on a Cummins powered 2nd gen. 2500 4x4 CC Dodge Ram for a buildup they did in something like 1997 or 1998. He said they were awesome on icy roads!

After a little bit of checking with a few tire stores here in the NW, I found very few sets of these sold. Of those that were, and of those that reported back to the tire store, they stated tread wear was not real great. Is that true?

TIA :)

I ended up going with the Toyo Open County A/T's in the stock size. Ride is good and low noise. Havent had them long enough to check mileage yet. Thanks for all that responded and helped with my decision.

Thanks

John,

I ran a set of Mickey thompson MTX's on a 96 4x4 for a while. They wore very, very, very fast... I don't think i could get 20,000 out of them and i get 60k plus out of the stock michelins and 40k plus out of bfg at's. That gives you something to compare to.

I tried the m55's. Ill never do it again!!!! They are very noisy, crooked drivers (if you have all 4 lanes you'll do allright) and dont last at all! I'd recommend maxxis buckshot mudders i have them now they are quiet, straight, and have an agreesive bite. i have 25k with 50% rubber left

I,ve now had Michelin LTX-MS the stock rubber. Then BFG All-Terraine KO's in 285 size. Then Dueler AT Revo's and now Dueler AT's. Of this lot the 285/75-16 Dueler AT Revo's were absolutely the best. They stuck like glue in the rain, ran quiet, responded to steering input very well, filled the wells much better in size, etc. I was a bad dog and did not rotate them enough so I evetually had bologne skins in the back and a little tread in the front after 38K. I still should have spent the extra $40. 00 a tire here last month and gotten a set of them again instead of the regular Dueler AT's. These regular AT's are certainly a nice tire,. but they aren't as responsive as the Revo's.
