I'm sure it is a leak right around my exhaust manifold, or where the turbo mounts to the exhaust manifold. If I step on it (at all) it sounds like a ghost coming from that area, and I get a little puff of black smoke. (that I can't tell exactly where it is coming from. )

My question is, Can I make a gasket that will hold up (that is worth while doing) from that high temperature gasket material in the tube, (can't remember what brand I got, but I'm sure I have a couple of tubes of the stuff (One of them the copper high temp )) for where the turbo connects to the exhaust manifold. I have the exhaust manifold gasket (I purchased that from Cummins) but I don't have the gasket for the turbo /exhaust manifold connection. ) So I'm wondering if I should start in, or wait till I have that right and proper gasket. I also have so spare cork (a sheet for making gasket ) but that would burn up, right?

I'd appreciate any feedback. .

Oh, 99 3500 stock turbo, stock exaust manifold.

Don't waste your time trying to make a gasket, it wi'' more than likely fail shortly after warm up. Wait till you have both Cummins' gaskets and do the job once. My exh man did the famous crack thing between #4 & 5 so when I received the ATS 3 piece the turbo had to come off anyway I think all totaled $30 +/- for gaskets not included with the ATS piece. I could be wrong though it was early this past Springtime?

I you find that your manifold is cracked and decide on the ATS 3 piece (around $400 I think) let me know as I can share a few tips to make installation easier. Like how to make sure the three pieces will line up correctly before you get them stuck in an unreleasable, out of alignment, uninstallable configuration. Not really complicated just learned a few tricks the instructions didn't include.

Good luck - hope your exh man isn't cracked and new gaskets do the trick.

You should be able to see where the leak is by where the soot is coming out. If you have soot all over, do a good clean job, then take it for a short ride with a few low rpm goose's to make it smoke. That should make it easy to spot the leak.

Thank You Sirs!!!

i APPRECIATE YOUR REPLY, KIND SIRS. THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I VALUE THE TIME YOU SPENT TO HELP ME!!

Joe MC, I will contact you if I decide to get the

ATS 3 piece. Thanks for the offer. I also saw the B@D headers so I will investigate and decide. Thank You!
