Kinda long, so bear with me...

Pulling the Fifth-Wheel across the country from California to Wisconsin, I love my truck, and I don't have gauges, so I pay attention on uphill grades, downshift when needed as to not lug the engine, pay attention to how much throttle I'm using to keep EGT's down, blah blah blah...

Well...

Somewhere in New Mexico, I'm going up a LONG gradual grade in sixth gear, and there's a truck in front of me going just a bit slower than me(I think it was a ford, but can't recall... but good for argument's sake)

Well, the girlfriend says "Pass Him"

I could tell I probably wouldn't gain any ground in sixth to get around him... so...

I downshift to fifth, RPM's go up to where they're happier in the 'Ol powerband, and I get ready to pass the guy.

But, being the considerate guy I am, I see the line of traffic coming up in the left lane, decide I can't make it around this guy without slowing them down, so I wait...

Well... the girlfriend says jokingly... "what, haven't got the balls?"

Well to quote one of my favorite movies... Raising Arizona...

"Now y'all without sin can cast the first stone"

But I feel that I can now do whatever it takes to not place her in that situation again :D

So... wanna keep the stock clutch as long as possible, that being said, I feel that a better exhaust and plug-in-box is the very least I need... so...

is an entire 4" exhaust that much better than a good aftermarket muffler added to existing exhaust...

and are the digital gauges that are part of the TST box accurate... of course I'm talking about the EGT's specifically...

I appreciate you hanging in there through my long story, if airbox, exhaust and plug-in-box don't do the trick, I am fully prepared to go the injector-turbo route... if only to keep the Missus happy... of course :)

"Balls Balls" cried the queen, "if I had two, I'd be King".

Go buy the toys; but I agree with your logic and staying where you were. I'll always take the safe way.

Don't forget that other old saying: He who dies with the most toys; is still dead.

I admire your restraint, it is always better to be careful.

To misquote a jet jockey

There are old drivers & bold drivers but the combination is scarce

Being considerate of the other drivers get's a lot more votes from me than trying to impress anyone.

That being said... ...

If I were one of the folks comming up in the left lane and you would have pulled out and shot past the F**D and not impeded us "left laners"... . that would have been a Thumbs Up on the way by too!!!

Yeah but if you tried to pass the Ferd, he would have saw you coming. He would have gunned it trying to not let you pass and then the Ferd blows a turbo, trans, or something else.

Easy Pass! You win!

Balls

mconstable,

Sounds like you got the green light on the bombing.

Look at DLeno's fueling box summary sheet to get some ideas about what the boxes do and the results they get.

Happy bombing.

:D

Get gauges. Then you can run it and know what it is doing. May not have required any goodies to pass the Ford.

You did the right thing! My hat is off to you.

Take care of the truck and it will take care of you. ;)

Now go buy some BOMBs, and tell her "your rock would have been larger, but I have to be able to pass any Ford!". :D

The gauges on my TST remote run very close to the readings of my DiPricol analog gauges. You'll love the way that truck pulls with a PMCR.

Im sure she will be glad to sacrifice the rock altogther to help with the bomb funds... not.

Mr. krabman, I tried to do the copy and paste thing but obviously I did not do it right. I don't want anyone to think I was trying to steal it or anything. I think your line was the most classic one I have read on this site.

I have two but only one installed. I'll put the other in when the ATS manifold and turbo go on. I say they're the same because I've switched back and forth a few times (gauge to TST) and every time EGT's peak at the same temp. Sorry if I implied I was watching both at the same time.

No worries. Married folks will tell you that bombing is twice as expensive as single folks will quote. Mine cost me not only for the parts but it turns out I also had to buy all new appliances and take her on vacation. Just about doubled the cost. Im just mentioning this so that folks who are not yet married be aware of how expensive it can be once that wedding band goes on. hehehehe

You take that from your girlfriend? Whats the matter don't you got any balls?

Seriously, its money not balls that most of us lack when it comes to going faster.

Just one more reason not to get married :D
