Had an opertunity to drive an 03 3500 4x4 cummins today. My sponsor had one on the lot. I really did not like it. It seemed way to quite and refined:D I am really happy I bought the 01. 5:rolleyes:

Cummins GT

I got my first up-close look at the Cummins Girlie Truck (GT) today. I was killing time while they reflashed my ECM and walked out front. (Also checking out the new badge that I'm going to be putting on mine soon. )

Anyway the salesman comes a running out there and says hey, you want to hear it run? And I said "NO-- unless you've removed the muffler. "

I didn't let him start it. Why?--I'm sure I'll _not_ hear one soon enough.

Well, I'm with you guys - I like the sound of my truck. BUT... I did drive an '03 at the TDR Nationals, and I did like it. I admire what Cummins has done with this new generation of the engine. They take a lot of pride in what they do - and they should. And like it or not, I think this new engine will be the key to keeping a Cummins in Dodge trucks down the road. I think it will be more marketable to the general public and will help get more diesels on the road. Just think of all those guys who want a diesel but can't convince the wife because of the noise. I do want to keep my truck forever - I love the sound, but I would buy one of these new ones some day (while keeping my old one!). The quieter engine really isn't all bad.

GT

I dont like the looks the front looks like its 6 foot from the bottom of the bumper to the top of the grill its not but it looks like it ,and the frame is too close to the ground.

I do like the hood and the slope of the windshield and a few other things!

ON another point I was at the dealer getting an oil change and yes they have a really good tech doing the oil on the cummin's or they wouldnt touch my truck! anyway the salesman I bought my truck was telling me that 03 would be the last year for the HO:--) has anyone else heard this??

Guy

I doubt that '03 is the last year for the HO. After hearing a few things here and there from the Cummins engineers, I would expect to see the numbers on this new engine to keep going up and up to stay ahead of the competition. In other words, there is a lot more room left on this new one. Also, there is supposed to be a new automatic coming that will put up with the high output numbers.

What's an HO???

Us guys out here in California don't have them since there not 50 state legal. I herd there trying to make them 50 state legal though.

A HO is a truck that goes out at night and makes some money. :D :D

Hey I like the 03's also...

... If you really want a girlie truck just buy a chebby;) :D :p . I don't know if I'll like the quiet Cummins but thank your hippie tree huggers for some of that. I will pay off my 99 first though, that way I can have the best of both worlds:) . . Doug

Wait till my wife finds out I ordered a girlie truck. Oh the shame of it all. :{

03

I drove one yesterday 2500, auto, it felt pretty much the same as mine drivetrain wise, but it had that softer chevy like ride. . :( I guess it was ok

Have you seen what high-flow common-rail injectors cost?!:--)

Bombing is going to be leetle more pain in the $.

If I were going to spend "new truck money" it would be for the 7100 conversion that DD is selling. Now that's sweet and very UNchevylike.

Anyway, by the time I get 4-500k on my 2000 there'll be a whole 'nother generation of EPA engineered ISB out.

When I first saw the 03 at the local dealer, I thought it was ugly. Now it's starting to grow on me. When I was looking at the new ones I did notice that they seemed to have more of a quality look to them (fit and finish) example the drive shaft was painted a nice shiny black, instead of the rusted drive shafts that came on the 94 - 02 trucks. I am looking forward to seeing a RC 3500 DRW 4x4 with the bigger tires, that one might look real good. Don't get me wrong I won't be buying one. By the time I wear my truck out I will be too old to drive :D

To everyone that is buying a new 03, congrats. I'm sure after I see a few more driving down the road I will also think they are beautiful :) I've noticed as I have gotten older that it takes longer for new things to grow on me.

look see

Went to the dealer last Fri night after dinner and beverages of choice. Only wanted to hear what the Cummins sounded like. I am impressed that they were able to "quiet" down the mighty Cummins. Wandered around and crawled under the truck. Fit and finish looks good. I do not like the dash. Maybe it will grow on me, like the front end. Like Fireman Dave I will keep mine. They might even get another body change in before I get another. ????

Only 360K until half a million Oo.

"It sure is ugly when a group turns against their own. . "

UMMmmmm - ya mean like when the 12-valvers turn on us 24-valvers?;) :p :D

Hey - just expressing opinions here - and SOME of us will understandably take a wait-and-see attitude with this new Cummins engine - JUST as we did with the Powerstroke and Duramax...

After all, EVERY manufacturer is capable of building a Titanic from time to time... :p :D

It's then up to each individual to decide if THEY wanna be one of the first "passengers" or not...

Its not Cummins fault its quieter. They are being forced by the EPA for emissions and noise. At least we still have a Cummins.

It may be quieter but it still sounds like a diesel and it definitely sounds like a Cummins. Maybe people won't run to the road with their garbage any more when I go to work in the morning. :D
