Ok guys, I just moved into the 2nd gen category with my 97. I need to know some things about what to do with this thing. Just like my 93 I want to go all the way and maybe press the limits a little. I guess there are no manual adjustments on this pump? I need to know like what # torque plate I need to get and where from, who makes the best injectors and all that crap. What things do I need to get for this to go all the way? Have fun with this guys, I interested to hear about everyones favorite mods and brands. EGT's and mileage do not matter to me, I want POWER! hehe

Second gens are SOOOOOOOOOOO much nicer than first gens eh? I used to have a 91, that thing was a real POS. There is an adjustment. Sliding the plate forward will give you more power. A #4 plate is the most aressive I think. Then get some DD3s or 370s. Then some bigger delivery valves. A govenor spring kit will give you more rpm but no more peak hp. However it will let you stay closer to the peak hp when you shift thus making you put pavement (or rice burners) behind you faster. :D From there I think the next step is a turbo, prolly an hx40 with a 12cm hot side.

guidelines

1. Step one is always gauges. Period.

Adding power.

2. Start with a tst plate.

3. AFC spring Kit

4. Governor Spring Kit ( IMO this is next )

5. Injectors

6. Delivery Valves ( if needed )

Clutch slipping problems

7. South Bend clutch

EGT reduction

8. 4" exhaust

9. Chase away the Cat

10. Air intake system

11. Exhaust housing

12. Bigger Turbo

13. ATS 3pc Pulse Manifold

14. Banks Twin RAM intake

15. Ported and polished head

OK so many of the EGT reduction systems also add power, however I think the primary purpose is to reduce EGT's so you can add more fuel with the main fueling devices.

Fueling devices and EGT devices should be increased at the same time.

If you want POWER you need a SOUTH BEND clutch.

Okay here is my opinion but keep in mind I am new to Bombing.

Gauges are always first I think most will agree with that.

Next I did the Exhaust, 4" turbo back, no cat or muff.

Next Intake system, I have the Psycotty, or you can go with the BHAF which people are having sucsess with lowering EGT's.

Then I went with a clutch I chose the Southbend Con-O but if your going over 420hp you may option for the newer Con-O/FE wich I believe is rated for over 450hp talk to Peter he will hook up.

Lets see thats intake, exhaust, and clutch, now your ready to bomb the engine.

I have the #10 TST plate wich I believe is the exstream for the 215hp P7100, I slid it all the way fwd along with the AFC Housing

Then I went with the AFC Spring kit and boost elbow.

I just recently added the 4K govenor spring kit and with that you will want to add the 60lb valve springs so you don't float the valves.

With the above mods I am at between 1500 and 1550 for EGT's and right at 40lb Boost.

Next will be a bigger turbo to keep the EGT's in check before adding 370 marine injectors and bigger I believe 291 delivery valves.

I don't know what my current HP is, never dynoed. but will be next month,

I had lots of help with the above from some great members here on the boards people like: My6eats8, brandon, HVAC, Piers, southbendClutch, Psychostroker, and many others.

Good luck,

Scott

thanks

Thanks, you guys are great. Now, is there any manual adjustments on this pump that I can do for free right now til I get other stuff? Do I use any adjustments on the pump that are already there when I get the rest of the stuff? I got that stinkin ve44 rotary pump mastered, then I wreck it.

Wirenut,

IMO, after the guages, if you don't want to get a new clutch from the start, then next go get a TST #11 plate. Centered it's 280/680 & all the way forward it's 340 & probably 800 ft-lbs. All the way forward & you're slipping the clutch. With the #11, you can find a happy medium of EGT & clutch limits. :)

Off the shelf TST plates for the automatic transmission pumps yield over 400hp in your pump with no other changes. Of course, you'll need a bigger turbo, clutch & exhaust. Don't forget the BHAF @ the higher levels. It reduces EGT & turbo lag. Synthetics throughout & a Mag-hytek should also be on the list.

BOMBing is like crack & we're the rats. :D

Oh, YES on the maual adjustments for that pump, but be careful, high EGT results. Just pop the AFC cover & loosen the 2 screws holding the plate and slide it all the way forward in the pump. That's good for an easy 120 ft-lbs. :) Get the guages in though. You can get the instructions off the TST site.

When you put the AFC housing back on, slide it all the way forward two. If you want better pedal response open up the AFC remove the spring all together, and cut the lip off of the biger brass looking washer (more travel) with some tin snips. And if you want a little more boost, low end, you can wire the wastegate shut, but I would just order the boost elbow from Piers for around $45. 00 I think.

Scott,

Ok guys, whats the AFC cover look like on this thing? I got all excited, grabbed the tools and went out, opened the hood then had this look:confused:

OK... drivers' side - injection pump - rear of that... you'll see a round plug about the size of a Susan B. Anthony with an allen fitting in the center. Open that up and look inside... you'll see the very top of a "star wheel". Using a narrow flat-bladed screwdriver, gently pry to turn the wheel clockwise (spin top towards the motor). This is changing tension on an internal spring. It will move in incremental 'clicks'. I would suggest turning the wheel as far as you can first, then after a test drive back-off a bit for smoke control. As you adjust the wheel, you'll see it move across the open hole, use the hole's perimiter as a sight guage. Some guys count the number of clicks. Remember to snug down the plug before you fire up!

Thanks guys. I had figured out today whats going on, Im learning my way around this pump. I got as far as that break off screw and got scared when I saw it and I wasn't at home with all the fancy tools so I figured I'd better put 'er back together. I'll be havin some smoke tomorrow for breakfast! Thanks

I wrecked my 93 Art, drove an S-10:rolleyes: for a few months, now I bought this. I got this pump about licked now boys. Couldn't have done it without ya's;) I've got black smoke and power now, Im happy til I get some more cash for the TST stuff, injectors and an hx40:D Thanks!
