Ok guys, no matter which way this cancer goes I want to visit this place. Any recommendations of a good place to park the 32' 5ver ?. I would prefer hookups if possible. I am not sure when this trip will occur as I think all the Cancer tests are done and now waiting to see the Doc probably to schedule surgery. Right now we are kind of stuck in Az for who knows how long.

Dave,

I stayed at the West Glacier KOA Resort a few years ago. It was very nice with an on-site ice cream shop and small restaurant. About two miles off the main road so very quiet. Much to do and see nearby. Good restaurant by the main road. Nice folks at the campground. Was a bit expensive as I remember, but the amenities are there.

There are about a dozen campgrounds in the vicinity, just make your reservations as early as possible. If you want to see glaciers you will be disappointed. If you have a passport a few more miles will take you to Banff NP on the BC AB borders. Quite a few glaciers still visible there, one that you can get on a bus and ride onto.

I've been traveling up there at least once a year for a long time now. I can't help much on the campground because I usually rent a house but there should be plenty of options in the Columbia Falls/Kalispell area. Just make sure Going to the Sun Road is open when you go. Have breakfast in Polebridge. Drive up to Kintla lake if you're feeling adventurous. Fall is the best time in my opinion, Glacier is a busy place in the summer.

We drove there in our buick several years ago. We got there the day they opened the going to the sun road. We were pretty close to first in line, and that was very fortunate not to be the lead car. It was really socked in. We drove along at about 3mph. I could not see the car in front of me even though I was almost in his trunk and he had very bright tail lights. If we looked directly to the right we could see the side of the cliff above us. Close to the top there was a very brief open hole in the fog and I could see the edge of the cliff. Dont know how we kept from driving right off in the fog. Scared the **** out of me.

We made a trip up there last summer (but did not actually visit the park since it was on fire!). We had reservations at West Glacier KOA and St. Mary Glacier KOA and although we ended up cancelling them, we did check them out for future return (we stayed at Flathead Lake State Park for a few days before bailing out and going to Yellowstone instead). West Glacier was super nice, and St. Mary was not nearly as nice (great facilities but grounds and sites not as nice) but had a better location, I believe, for sightseeing. Both had full hookups. We didn't get a chance to see any of the campgrounds inside the park.

Thanks for the tips/ideas. We will make a few calls and see what the reservation window looks like when the VA gets done removing some of my internal options.
