I have been running the glacier 392 for about 2 months 15psi idle 10psi WOT tonight I installed the Vulcan draw straw now I’m seeing 17psi idle 7psi WOT not sure what’s going, on any suggestions?

Kris

I'd say that there is a restriction in the system somewere  The fuel pressure should have stayed the same or gone up with better flow. I'd Recheck the connection to the Draw-Straw.

PS; on a mild box, mine runs 14-16 PSI with a drop to 12PSI WOT. Moose00

I'm with Moose - something must be restricting flow somewhere?

Do you have an inline strainer before the pump? Don't feel bad neither do I, . . . yet.

By the way, I'm idling @ 18 - 19 and @ WOT 16 - 17, w/Comp on 5/4. Happier than a pig in slop :D , I deserve to be after 5 POS Carter LPs bit the dust.

Did you call Rich @ Glacier? If not, give him a call. He'll give some ideas / put you in the right direction.

Is it possible the straw is too close to the bottom of the tank?

Huummmmmm? I wonder.

Don't feel bad, if you have to take the tank out again - I've had mine out twice in the last 2 months  . Once to install the draw straw and then again a few weekends back to install new brake line. With my eyes closed now - unfortunately. :(

Good luck - let us know what you find.

I pulled the line off of the filter housing and bumped the starter with the end of the hose in a bucket seemed to be putting out plenty of volume and probably put out about ½ gallon

Do you have an inline strainer? If not you could have sucked some trash in the pump. That could cause the problem that you are having. Also how did you install the draw straw? Did you leave the puck with the screen on the bottom? Did you cut the draw straw at a slight angle?

I don’t have a strainer well I have one just not installed yet. I was doing some trouble shooting and put a set of vise grips on the return line coming from the Glacier pump my idle pressure went up to 23psi but I could still pull the pressure to 9psi @WOT so I’m going to drop the tank and see if I can find something wrong. When I installed the draw straw I did not install the rubber puck just the strainer screen at the bottom and I did cut the draw straw at a slight angle

Does any one know if the Walbro 392 can be bought at NAPA or other parts houses a part number would be helpful if any one knows. Also did the walbro 392 come from the factory in any vehicles?

K- Before you drop the tank again - be patient now - give Rich at Glacier a call - even if you got your set-up elsewhere, he's a good fellow and will help you anyway he can.

I see from the website that the Walbro aprears to be an "in-tank" pump for many a stock vehicle - or at least they are listed.

For us - I wnet to a site that sells Walbro - see here

http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/

On the left side go to Fuel Pumps / External. Scroll down a bit and there they are - looks very much like exact one I have and probably is.

Good luck

What are you using for guages? Have you tested with a different guage?

I don't think you want to be clamping the line after the bypass valve while the pump is still hooked up to your VP. These pumps, without regulation, can build over 100 psi, which will DEFINITELY damage your VP.

Using the edge juice for pressure gauge. When I put the vise grip on the return line I lightly restricted the line just wanted to see if it would build any more pressure @WOT

Getting ready to put the 392 on my 01. (5th lp going bad according to gages) My question is, do I really need the draw straw (what ever that is????) Help me out here !!!!

I don’t know what else to try I dropped the tank again and checked for restrictions every thing is fine is it possible it could be the pump? I still have 16 psi @idle but wide open it drops to 7psi

KKunz - Sorry to hear you are having a go at it and can appreciate the comment about "if you had to do the straw again". What does Rich @ Glacier recommend?

WBlackBurn - check out link "Vulcan Draw Straw" in my signatue for information on it. No you don't "have" to do it but, it provides a larger line from tank to pump provideing less restriction to pump. If you want an overview of what it took for me to install the straw got to Readers Rigs, Joe Mc's 99, album titled "Fuel tank R & R" for pictures and my comments / attempts at humor during my install.

KKunz do keep us posted - sorry I can't be of more help and for the troubles you are having.

WBlackburn, I didn't put a draw straw in my truck. I used a factory tank module. I cut the screen out of the puck that snaps on the bottom. I then put a serviceable in line filter before the pump. I have a set of stage 2 injectors & a ADD. My pressure doesn't go below 14. 5 at any time. Jeff

Something else to look for is a air leak on the suction side of the pump. Check the supply fitting on the draw straw and the in side of the walbro pump.

I think we have found the problem I talked to Rich a glacier diesel and he said to look at the filter in side the walbro pump…. sure enough it was packed full of small pieces of plastic he said the pump was cavitating. I reinstalled the factory LP while still using the draw straw and I’m running 15psi@idle and 8psi@ WOT I ordered a new walbro pump from glacier diesel and should have it in by the end of the week

KKunz dont feel bad. I had the same problem. Richard is excellent at helping out. Those pumps have been around and used in many different applications and are great pumps. They have a fine screen in the suction side that plugs easily . You need that inline filter or you will plug it. My pressure runs14 at idle and 12 at WOT. I do suspect a hole in my pickup tube so I just ordered a draw straw from Glacier. Reason I suspect it is when I get to about a third of a tank my pressure starts to vary a lot and as I get under that I will lose pressure. I had to take my tank off because I pumped some bad junk in it from a fuel stop. Caused major problems for me but got it cleaned out and I did notice my pickup tube and assmbly was looking worn. The OEM pickup assembly in my tank is made by Walbro. The tag is on it that says that.

If you're going to use a Draw Straw, you really ought to have a filter in front of your LP. I got one from Kragen, made by Spectre, that you can see if it's crudded up. I drilled out all the passages a little bigger. It works great. There's a picture of my install in my Reader's Rigs gallery. Spectre Fuel Filter

Another filter solution can be had at EngineGearOnline.com

Glacier has a good prefilter, but it's a metal canister type, so you can't see whether it's plugged up, plus it's not serviceable, it can't be cleaned.

Actually a prefilter is a good idea regardless of whether you have the Draw Straw or not.
