Maybe they thought people might not know what a grid heater is? Or the new 6.7 is really a Power Joke?

i have an 18 2500 and it displays "vehicle pre heat "
on occasion, it displays that when it is 40 - 60 degrees out - dunno what is up with that...
cheers!

I believe mine says preheat. I'm not really sure as I just ignore what it says because I know the Grid heater is warming up before it allows a start.

It won’t help with remote start though, it’s an automatic sequence, if ambient temperatures are below the programmed set point.

My guess is the warmer air lessens emissions, I agree it doesn't need any help firing off at 50 degrees F.

My '00 24V however needs all the warm air the grid heater will give it at below 0 temps. I have often times cycled it twice in a row while taking time to get my fingers crossed good and tight!

66° has long been the intake manifold temp threshold for the grid heater to indicate a pre-heat cycle. I bypass it most the time above 20°. On my 05 I reprogrammed it to not even come on above 32° and not really start heating up until 10°.

I will say the 220A alternator really makes the post heat a lot harder to notice.

I dont think ive even plugged my truck in since owning it and I have the plug for the block heater. Every year we go from DFW to hugo, OK and last year it got pretty cold and truck fired right up after waiting for my little light to go off. Im wondering if the newer trucks just run hotter and crank harder so it doesnt seem like it really makes a difference?

A 'true diesel' or more precisely a compression ignition engine such as the 6.7 liter Cummins engine in your truck does NOT have glow plugs. It relies solely on the heat produced inside the cylinder and the atomization of the fuel as it comes out of the fuel injector to ignite the charge. When the ambient temperature is below, 57 degrees for 2nd gen Rams, I don't remember the temp on 4th gen, an air heater inside the intake manifold heats the air so that it will aid in igniting the fuel until some block/piston heat begins to build. This also aids in reducing the amount of unburned fuel that finds its way into the lube oil.
