Glow Plugs????

Made a bet yesterday (a beer) when a friend of mine told me that when he used to drive his friends 1st generation he had to wait for the "glow-plugs" light on the dash to turn off before starting. I told him that, as far as I know, we never used glow-plugs, rather a heated grid which warmed the intake. He was positive and so am I. Please advise and thanks for the help.

Enjoy your beer. The light on first generation says "wait to start". They use a grid heater system in the intake manifold which pre heats the intake air prior to starting.

Couple years ago my Brother in Laws next door neighbor bought a new Powerstroke and brought it over to show off. While looking in the engine compartment, Bro in Law remarked that it was pretty crowded. The neighbor in complete seriousness said "Yeah, changing the spark plugs is going to be a bear"
