Cowl Cracks

Cotton Owens Enterprises Inc.

That's the right part,Philip.

The stud toward the drivers side is in perfsct condition; but the other one is rusted something terrible. I tried to get the nut off the stud but it is rusted too bad. The washer was rusted off.

I think for right now I might stick half a washer in there and put a little dab of JB Weld for right now?

Steve,

Can you back out the whole stud and replace it? Be careful, I don't know if JB weld is conductive - be sure and use it sparingly.

Awesome!! ... . I've got my fingers crossed for ya... 12 degrees?!? ... Are you sure youre in Cali?... I thought it only got pitifully cold here this time of year!... Forget the grid heater - you need a block heater. :) ... I couldn't live here without mine!

Best of luck,

Rob

Guys, I've been watching this thread with interest. Since there are now parts/components that are getting rare, if this works properly, you should post the basic issue/problem and part #/fix in the thread "... . Best tip I ever got..... "

Thanks,

Bob.

Is there a place on the TDR website for sharing part numbers and/or sources of hard to find replacements? ... I think a part number/part source database would be a cool idea... What do you think Bob?

Rob

P. S. - If no one else does it, I will post the number and source for the grid heater solenoids on the other thread... However, I want to hear back from Baron on how well they work before posting - just to make sure. :)

Rob, you could should atleast post it in the 1st Gen thread I mentioned for starters since this directly relates to the older 1st Gen trucks.

After that, you could put it in ohhhh,,, Products/Accessories section maybe.

BTW, more and more of these issues will come up as time goes on. When you guys find a component/part that is "no longer produced" and you dig up an aftermarket source, post it. You never know who may need it next.

Thanks Rob.

Bob.

Hey, what do you guys think if we start a "Hard to find/No longer made parts source" thread????

What's the feeling on that one??

Tell me about it :D ... Thats my biggest complaint about owning a 1st gen - there have been soooo many parts that I have been trying to find that have been discontinued... Its frustrating at times because you know that if you break certain parts on your truck you are simply out in the cold.

I think its a great idea!! ... . We really could use a place to go when we need a part number or a source for a hard to find part... Bob, you're a moderator - can you use your clout with the TDR admins to make that thread a permanent fixture?

Rob

I agree TO!! I'm not sure if the overhead on the servers would be too much, but it would be great if there was a spot that could list all types of part numbers; Dodge, Cummins, BHAF, discontinued, cross reference, maybe even broke out by generation. Could we pass this to Steve St. Laurent and get his take?

This actually sounds like it would be a good fit for Dave Fritz's site, dodgeram.org. You might want to email him to see if he'd be interested in including it there.

I saw onetime a guy got under his hood with wet shorts and was electrocuted DOA at hospital. I have been hit with 10,000 volts and it hurt a little (low amperage). Miliamps can kill you always be careful. All repair procedures on truck call for unhooking battery. WARNING

rkubicki, guys,

That is a good twist on the thought. I'll see if that is something the board can accomodate. I have no idea if that is something that will fly, but it's worth looking into.

I'm on it... ... .

Bob.

OK just got in... ... ... installed what appears to be the exact replacements yesterday. . they arrived 3 day UPS from Newark Electronics 217 Wilcox Ave Saffney , S Carolina 29341 but were ordered from a local dealer. I am assuming they will work. It was so cold here this morn that I am not sure the grid heater was doing it's job. I still have to trouble shoot the rest of the system... ..... but as they say parts is parts... ... . baron

Maybe we should start a "vote thread" so the board can gage the interest in this... . It may make their decision a little easier.

Just a thought.

Baron, did you hear the solenoids cycling on and off after initial startup? ... . Look for your voltmeter on the dash to twitch when the heater cycles on/off... . If you aren't seeing/hearing this the heater circuit may not be working correctly yet... The procedure in one of my previous posts should isolate the problem.

good luck, Rob

I'll jump in and agree that a thread containing part numbers for the routine maintenance and common problem parts is a good idea. It would have saved a bunch of time for me when I was looking for Fleetguard filter numbers.

I think the vBulletin software allows selected posts to remain at the top of a forum - the moderator announcement is a good example - and is sometimes referred to as a "sticky" (because the post "sticks" at the top;)). Should be just a matter of compiling the info and having the administrator post it. :)
