GM 6.5 tuning

Hello,



A friend was asking me if a 6. 5 inj pump could be tweaked? A '95 model to be specific. I haven't messed with any, so wondered if someone could tell me how (if at all) it can be tweaked.

95 should be the electronic pump. there are things you can do with those. you can get a chip for those [kennedy diesel makes a good one] and you can advance the mechanial timing on the pump [but the ecm needs to be reprogramed/relearned with the tech2 scan tool]. they also have the electronic wastegate and you can get a boost controller for it to let you build/maintain a little more boost [15peak, 10stable] if you want more than that, you need major work as an intercooler will be needed, and anymore and you will need to rebuild with low compression pistons. opening up the exhaust helps a bunch [the oem downpipe is a terrable piece] and you can upgrade the cross over pipe from the crimp bend one to a mandral bent one.

I am over here in Iraq and we are turning up the fuel pressure in the injection pump to advance the fueling in the Humvees. We also advance the timing a little bit. Needless to say the run like a completely different truck. Suprisingly they also run a little cooler.
