Have a 1996 Buick LeSabre, 3800 engine. Anyone know of a good forum for GM,s or Buick and such. jps

The 3800 (through its various generations) has been a darn good engine. The auto transaxles have been relatively bulletproof too... . except for the supercharged 3800's... . they like to eat trannies when BOMBed.

Sorry for the late reply Matt! Yes, I'm having a problem. Coolant leak at the intake manifold. Externally. My mechanic said it has been a problem, not well known to customers. I have a 1996 Buick LeSabre,100,000 miles. Just bought used. This one has the two piece intake. Looks like I'll have to replace both to do it correctly. Anyone had any problems like this on the 3800 engine? jps

I have worked on a dozen or so of those engines in my life and never had any coolant problems besides water pumps.



Removing the intake manifold(s) on that setup would almost be a shadetree mechanic operation - nothing too complicated, just a little time consuming.

I see your from Mass, Matt. I live in nw Iowa. Have a son out your way. He is also in computer business. Right now unemployed. He is trying to find housing in Nashua,NH. He has been into computers for about twenty years, looking for a job. Got any ideas for him? We have been to Mass. quite a few times. Has been a couple of years now. Our son Mark has lived near Dunstable and Pepperill [sp?] His wife has taught at Lowell for many years! There must have been some changes in the 3800 engine intakes. Newer one are suppose to take care of the problem. Not sure I have enough confidence to try changing them myself! Take care, jps
