GM HD/Duramax: just how DURA-ble will they be?

Why not a Medium duty truck instead of our light duty trucks?

I was spying on the competition and found
some interesting gripes about the new GM HD
trucks. Most of them in this thread are
related to the flimsiness of the cabs and
pickup beds. Here's the link:

I sure am happy with my decision to buy my
Cummins powered 3500 Dodge Ram instead of
waiting for the new GM HD trucks! #ad

You know, it's a shame we can't all be friends. The guys from this site could probably help the guys from that site. But then, they would ban us from the site when we make smart a$$ remarks like we do on this site. What the heck. Let them figure it out. Interesting that most of the weight saving ideas are now beginning to show up as undesirable characteristics in the truck. After rust through problems on a Chevy pickup and Blazer in the 70s I was never very impressed with the amount of effort GM put into bodies anyway.

Could it be, is it possible, have you ever considered that the Ad guys for GM suggested the term "Dura" as in durable to throw everyone off track. History always repeats itself... . hide 'n watch!

Well, I enjoy Dura bashing at least as much, if not more than anyone else but I'm gonna give them a pass on this one. I read the thread and to be honest, we have similar threads on the "24v Forum". Only difference I noticed is his dealership decided to just replace the whole assembly while DC would be trying to argue that the chrome exhaust tip the guy put on it caused the problem and the warranty is void #ad

Chris,

I agree, the GM HD beds do look weak to me as well. I looked at them before making the dodge decision. I did personally feel they were not well built. There was also very little protection between the bed and fenders, I could see myself banging up fenders from the inside from simple use.

If you are going to use the bed, stay with Dodge, if you are going to cover the bed and never use it, then the others will be fine.
