Has anyone used a nv4500 out of a 1996 GM diesel 2500 into a 1st. gen. ? I have one that is in good shape, plus I have got a Dodge input shaft and brg. retainer. Does the GM trans have the same 5th gear problems as the Dodge? I don't see anything wrong with using the GM style output and converting the drive shaft to fit. I know I need a bellhousing { like Advance Adpt. } and that 3/4 '' should be cut off the brg. retainer? I am thinking about replacing the brgs. and sync. in it. I have a good Getrag in it now,and the D350 I have has only 64000 orignal miles on it. I have changed the fluid to sync. and over filled it 1qt. I pull 20K most of the time and want to be ready to change the Getrag out when I smoke it. Any advise?

The GM and Dodge NV4500 use the same 5th gear style lock nut. I thought the GM NV4500 used smaller input and output shafts? I have not heard of anyone else having problems with the NV4500. It's when you put the NV4500 on the back of a Cummin's is when the problem of the 5th gear nut shows it's ugly head.
