I am in the process of rebuilding my old 91 W350. Engine is fine, frame is good but the cab and bed rotted right off it. I have all new stuff from a d 150 that is mint. My old Getrag and transfer case is very tired. I found a P pumped engine with a GM 4500 and 240 transfer case mated to it. Input shaft was changed etc. I am not so interested in the engine as mine is still relatively young but the price is right and thought I would used the transmission and transfer case in my application. Is there going to be a can of worms opened if I use that stuff? Will the bell housing adapter fit? The clutch? The flywheel? Is the transmission different in any way? If I were to drop the whole business in, what would I be up against, ECM etc? I guess it came out of a chevy truck. Thanks for the help.

If you use the '91 engine, I believe you'll have to use the later model adapter plate. As far as dropping it all in, I think the only real problem you'd have would be the fuel shut off solenoid, as the old rotary pumps just had the hot wires to the fuel shut off, and one to the cold start solenoid. The fuel shut off on the P7100 pump has a start, run, and ground position... not a hard problem to overcome, of course. The only ECM function that is relevant to your swap is voltage regulation. But if I remember correctly, the voltage regulator on the firewall will connect straight up and function fine on the later 12 valve, so no real problems, as long as the block has the correct castings on the side for your older style motor mounts. Of course, I don't know what fuel systems you have, but the stock '90 system will mount on the P-pump block... . but the later system flows more... .
