Happy Birthday, me4osu!

Big Dig has a new book out!

I have a 1997 Astro van, er, ah, I mean my wife has a 1997 Astro van :D and the driver's door electric window has probs. This is the second window that I've had in it. When I go to put it down, it goes almost all the way before it quits. After some time, I can get it to go again. The same thing when putting it up. In other words, it will move a little, and then acts like it's getting hot or something and stops. It doesn't move any slower than the other window, like it's working real hard and then giving up. It just goes, and then stops. If I help it, either push it down, or pull it up to help it, it will go all the way.

Does this sound like the motor going out, or is it something else. If I replace it, this will be the second time. I don't want to keep replacing the motor if there is some other problem causing this.

Anyone, Anyone?

Electrical Gremlins!!! #@$%!

How old is the second motor?

It sounds to me like a wiring problem, probably in a connector somewhere.

Do you have a diagram? I would track down the connections and check them.

2nd motor is about 3 years old. I'm going to tear the door apart and look in there this week. I have the new motor, and will tackle it in a couple of days. I'll look closely at the connectors and wires.

Thanks

They all do that! Been there. Well, at least the fuel gauge still works on ours.

My fuel gage moves back and forth when the blinkers are on

I thought at first it was doing that because the alternator was going out, and not providing enough juice. NOT! Just a bad gage. Oh well, the alt is new :)

Try spraying the window channel with a good silicon spray, run the window up and down then spray it again, sounds like the overload contacts for the motor are opening up. bg

I believe most GM power windows have a circuit breaker instead of a fuse in the fusebox. If there is another identical breaker in there (power seats?) switch it out with the one for your windows and see if it makes any difference.
