NV4500 Conversion

Hey all- Its only been just over 2 years since I started my 1989 GMC conversion and its been a long long road and its finally starting to look like its comming together :--) :) :--)

Anyway, here is a detailed list of what all was done to the truck if you are not aware of my project. It started out as a 1989 Reg-cab long box 2wd dually. I started the project in the hopes to just have the Cummins under the hood and it grew fast from there! Most of you will notice that its no longer a reg-cab but now a crew-cab. I picked up the cab which had the fire wall pushed in slightly and were unable to pull it. After talking to a few body shops it was decided to cut the firewall/half the A-Pillar off and graft my existing 1989 firewall onto it. There for the truck is a 1989 crew-cab CK truck (never made by the factory).

Anyway, here is the list of things that were done.

-Cummins Conversion - 1996 5. 9 Cummins (rebuild by Hasiley Machine)

-4x4 conversion - used a 1989 Dodge Dana 60 (ARB locker)

- coil spring setup

- 2005 Ford Trailing arms

-2004 NV5600 6-speed Transmission (Haisley Comp Puller Dual disk Clutch)

-1997 NP241 HD (custom built with GMC speedo)

-2004 GMC AAM 11. 5 Rear Dually Axle

I will continue to update you all on my progress and keep adding pictures as they come and feel free to ask questions or post a response... positive or negative.

Thanks... RyanB

Ready for the Crew-Cab!!! I had to take the rear wheels off to lower it down enough... still took 6 guys/2 girls to pick it up and set it on the frame!

Last pictures for the day! The last pic in this set is what some were asking about a while ago. That is the International Harvester symbal cast into my head by the rear engine lift bracket. My block was also an IH casting but was unable to get a pic of that logal because its behind the timing cover.

So that is a Dodge front axle, but you are using Ford radius arms?

What size heims are on that track bar? They seem small in that pic... actually the whole track bar seems small. I'd make it at least 1. 25" tube, 3/16" wall.

that is awsome dude, man i wish i had the time to do that, hopefully later in my life i will have that oportunity to do what your doing right now. keep the pictures coming, and good work!

Pictures are very deceiving!!!! The Heims are 3/4" (the best/strongest I could get up here in Canada) and the tubing is 5/8" ID and 1. 5" OD which is just over 3/8" wall thickness... . it took me alot of presure to get the bends but it turned out great. I was trying to get the track bar up front like dodge does but it was getting into my steering. Speaking of steering... I have also now went with the upgraded T-style steering and am going to put it on this weekend.

As far as the Dodge D60 goes. I originaly went with this axle because of the coils thinking everything would work great and I could use there suspension system and just make the brackets for my frame... no such luck. The GM frame is over 8" wider than the dodge and the brackets were comming up on the frame rails. Didn't work. The bracketry also hung down way to low and didn't have that "stock" look I was hopeing for!

At the time it was just when Ford came out with there new suspension and I got to thinking... why wouldn't that work? I had my brother cut out all the brackets on there cnc plasma at work and I got custom bushings made by Energy Suspension because there wasn't anything close they had or anyone else!

With doing the suspension this way and using the Ford arms I was able to keep them up nice and high and I think it has a very much stock look to it!

Right now it has a set of cut springs in the front to give me my driving height and once all the weight is on it the real springs are going in!!!!

Yes I agree that pics are deceiving! I was thinking it was maybe 3/4" tube haha.

That's a neat setup with the suspension. It looks like you know what your doing!
