what cars/trucks have you owned in your life

Estimate garage costs?

When I was a kid, I tore around on a cart/minibike combination that was sold by Montgomery-Wards. It was a "early" three wheeler. It had large balloon tires on the back and a minibike type front end. It was powered by a Briggs 5 hp. , comet centrifigal belt clutch, and had a hand brake. It was bright green so it was aptly named "the green machine". Does anyone know who made it for MW? I still have it and am going to fix it up for my nephews and eventually my daughter to drive and of course fix. Good experience and simple. It really was a lot of fun and didn't cost an arm and a leg like the new 4 wheelers. Does anyone remember theses things? What were you riding/driving when you were a kid?

I had something similar to shovelhead's, until I got my 1973 Honda Z-50. Followed by: 1977 Honda XR 75, 1980 XR 80, 1981 XR 100, 1982 CR 80R, 1982 Suzuki RM250, 1987 Kawasaki KDX200, 1992 Yamaha YZ 250, 1996 Kawasaki KDX 200, 1999 KX 250. Coming Soon: 2004 Suzuki DRZ 400!:D

Not including street bikes, of course. ;)

Dave

P. S. Sorry, If I got carried away!!!!

1st bike was a Honda SL 70 whan I was 10. It was a large bike for a 10 yr old.

Had a few CT 70's, XR 75, CR 80, CR 125, Yamaha YZ 125, Suzuki RM 80 (used to beat 125's with this one :-laf ) and I had an Indian 125 dirtbike. It was only an Indian in name, it was made in China.

I probably forgot a few,this was 20+ years back.

I only owned one street bike, a Honda CM 450.

Sorry, I got carried away too. :-laf

Grreew up with a bike similar to Shovelheads, a Cheetah if I remember right, and a buddys modified lawn tractor with a 8 horse Wisconsin ( Techumseh?) and a 4 speed! Neither worked good in the winter though!

First one I had was a 1959(I think)NSU moped 1. 5 hp worked on that thing as much as I rode it. From there I went to Hondas,Norton back to Honda then went to Harleys. Had a superglide, softail custom(it was the best)and a big FLHTUC(think thats what they called it)now I'm without. All I got is a Kaw mule,Kubota M6800 4wd,Kubota BX1800(a fine cutting machine)and a Cub Gadet. Hoping my son will buy a bike and then I will get to ride it:D

XR75,XR80, CR125,CR250,250X Quad, 250R Quad, My last quad that I just sold was a 2003 Suzuki LTZ400 that uses the DRZ400 bike engine. great machine but I need a Ute for the farm so I'm looking at the new Prairie 700 as a replacement. I want one of those bar stool carts for a pit machine.

First bike I had was similar to Shovelhead's. Came from Otasco with a Continental Red Seal engine. That was 1962. I really wanted a Cushman Eagle though.

Since then had a Honda Elsinore 250, Honda CB500-4, CB900 Custom, and Goldwing Interstate.

Rode a friends Honda 305 Superhawk quite a bit! Cousin had a Vespa that I rode some.

I drooled over the bikes in the Sears catalog back in 1961 a lot!

Last motorcycle I rode on the back seat was in 1965 and was a Honda Super 90. Never again! Front seat only or I would walk!

Shriners here in Indiana used to ride those bright green trikes like you talking about tmpenner. They would go to the parades all over and ride them in groups of about 20... cutting cookies and figure 8's and such... all in sync. I always wanted one as a kid. Maybe a search or contacting the Shriners Motor Division here in Indiana could help. Theirs had chrome mooncaps on the back wheels and chrome straight pipes on the Briggs motors. And the green fiberglass had sparkles in it like a bass boat paintjob.

They also used to do this with Honda Goldwings. They were all tricked out. Now in todays budget crunch and low participation for their group... the old guys have gone to using moped scooters. Easier to load up than a Goldwing.

Probably a fat chance... but a company called Heald (Carl Heald) used to make something very similar to the three wheeled trikes but I think theirs had a fat flotation tire in the front too.

Thanks for your replies! My "green machine" was similar to the Heald super tryke but not as advanced! Some them were pretty decked out with lights, horn, differential, forward and reverse, hydraulic brakes, electric start, etc. Mine was lot more simple. Since no one has see my montgomery wards special, I suppose I should restore it!!!! Thanks again,

Matt
