Go pedal won,t go

:{ This is a problem I have currently with my 89 250 auto 2wd, help. When cold below 50deg and upon first start up in the morning ,the accelorator pedal will not advance, its rigid . After driving one block it releases and operates normal. The grid heaters are working and the thermistor checks good. Could the fuel heater have any effect on this problem? At present I still do not have guages on this vehicle however, the RPMs seem to be in spec. and every thing else operates normal. The guages are on the got to list I just had to install on the other two trucks first because I use them more often . Thanks for your help again as you have done so many times in the past. You need to duplicate the exact conditions and then troubleshoot. As opposed to driving, you need to beging to disconnect various components to determine whee the problerm is located.

It sounds as you decribed, that the problem lies with in the injection pump(?)

Greenleaf , thanks I did exactally what you suggested early this AM . I isolated the problem and it appears to be the linkage from the transmission to the fuel supply linkage. I still don,t fully understand how it functions but it seems there is a cable inside a tube that was hanging up. I lubed it and it works, until better weather and time permits for a closer look. I have all the factory service books and they are vague on tne purpose of this cable. Maybe i,ll get to disect it to see what makes it tick. thanks for the reply. Ken

Trans cable sticking

When I had the trans out of mine I removed the cable and marked where it was on the upper end of the throttle bracket so as to reinstall it in the same spot. It was sticky as far as operation but not as bad as you describe.

I used liquid graphite cable lube on both ends and just moved the cable in and out a bunch of times with my fingers or a pair of needle nose pliers to get the lube all the way down the inner part of the housing. It is spring loaded on one end so it should pull back when you let it go.

This cable controls shift points, kickdowns and I believe pressures in the valve body.

Had that happen to me after i cleaned the underhood area... NEVER soak under the hood in the winter time... duhhh! After thawing out the trans cable i lubed the daylights out of it and havent had a problem since.
