Can anyone tell me their experience with Goerend Bro's product? Like's, dislikes. Did you install just the valve body, torque convertor, or did you do the whole trans? Any info?

Thanks.

I did the converter and modified the valve body per Dave's instructions. At 275 hp it was one of the best performance upgrades I'd made. Now that I'm well above that power level (and have a lot more miles on the truck), I'm saving up for the step up to support the new power level.

Excellent products and support. Very nice people to deal with too.

I made an appointment with Goerends last year for a new TC & transmission inspection/upgrade. I got in there at 8am, out by dark. They dropped the transmission, in about an hour, and gave it to an employe for tear down. While that was going on, Dave personally spend almost 4 hrs custom building my TC, while I watched every step. It's a solid billet cover, triple disc, with a custom milled stator for low stall speed. The transmission got some new forward drive clutches, a new OD planetary gear, inner oil pump gear, machined steel, 2nd gear band strut lever (?) & a few other normal wear & tear replacement parts, new seals, gaskets, & a bath. They got it all back together & test drove it, & I was on my way. The triple disc TC is a HUGE improvement, and with just 300 RWHP, no valve body changes were necessary. It will supposidly hold 500 HP with standard valve body without slipping. Top notch people who were very accomodating & know what they're doing. If you shop around, you'll find the best value at Goerends.

another satisfied customer

I first visited Goerend's a year ago May when the Wisconsin TDR gang had a dyno day in the shop.

I wasn't really there for the dyno, but to check out the transmission business. After getting the tour and a full session of transmission 101 as well as torque converter 101, I left vowing to return.

This June I returned for a full transmision swap and new triple disc converter.

I decided with 100k to go ahead with a full transmission rebuild. The transmission was doing OK, but starting to show signs of my recent bombings.

The torque converter was completely shot. Lockup clutch burned beyond recognition and the output (turbine) hub splines were nearly gone.

The rebuild list reads similar to Dennis' except I got a new O/D unit, too. Goerend's have been using steel 2nd gear band strut levers and o-ringed servo covers for many years.

The modified valve body allows lockup in all forward gears. It also improves cooler flow, including park.

Dave's 3 disc converter is a work of art. They hand fit every piece in the assembly process to avoid rattles and hangups. I saw numerous rejected parts. Dave's stator milling has evolved into a a tight fluid coupling, good torque multiplying, & low stall speed converter.

I still smile as preventative maintenance as opposed to road side assistance is the best way to get a new transmission.

Blackcloud says it well;

"... Totally happy with the product, quality and prices. "

I will say this without exaggeration.....

Dave Goerend is the best person I've ever dealt with in business, in any respect, period. And his converter appears to be killer. I've got a stock trans with only one of the seal upgrades, and the pressure screw turned up a couple turns, and I've towed 12k trailer with my box set on HOT, and usually set in the middle for the last 30k miles... haven't had an issue. Now this isn't his recommendation, just my stupidity racing other diesels through the mountains pulling trailers.

Also, to rip my trans apart I needed slide hammers for the pump and he sent his personal slide hammers(snap on brand no less) across the country to me trusting that I would send them back. Further, to make life easier in changing the seal he sent me a drum with the new seal and clutchs FOR FREE on trust that I would send him mine back... .

Further, since he knew this was my first dive into this transmission, he called me at home FROM HIS HOME to check up and make sure I was doing alright... . and continued to call back until I told him I was done.

So between his service and his product, I don't know what else I could possibly expect more of... .

This is not a paid advertisement and he probably don't even remember me. I'm just an overly satisfied customer, who for once got what he expected.

Thanks for the responses. I got a very good impression from the e-mail he sent me. I had asked several questions and he gave very thorough responses and even gave me his home phone number in case I needed to discuss it further with him. You don't run across that very often.

I'll probably go with the complete transmission eventually when I get the $$$. :)
