4" exhaust for HX40?

Exhaust housing?

How many miles could I expect out of my 47RE transmission if I had Goerend's bomb it for me? I tow some around the the farm but most of the miles will be truck only. Not trying to start a transmission war, just looking for some good unbiased opinions from some of their customers.

Like those guys said

The most bang for the buck as far as I'm concerned. Very happy so far 8000 miles. I got everything but the billet shafts. Put that extra $1500. 00 into something else.

(no flame to other transmission vendors intended)

very happy , with 30k on torque converter

:D I pull 14k most every weekend spring through fall, last pull this weekend in Duncan , NC.

Do they lock the TC up in 2nd gear similar to one of the other vendors? How are the upshifts on a light throttle, especially if your letting off of the pedal?

You guys with the Goerend's Torque converter, could you please answer this question for me? If you were to hold the brake and floor the go pedal on your truck what RPM would your truck stall out at? If you are taking off full throttle and the truck is shifting through the gears how much does the RPM drop from gear to gear? How abou the drop when it locks up the coverter in 4th gear? Did they offer you a choice in stall speeds? I am going to be getting one of there converters soon I hope. Thanks in advance for the help... ... ... ... . Brian

why would you do that to your truck??

To test the stall speed and WOT shifts, these are good questions your asking ZR600..... homework!

Jim

Homework, that exactly what I am trying to do. I have a converter in there now that was "suppose" to be tighter but is not any better than stock. It stalls out at 2300 RPM and only drops maybe 200 RPM at WOT shifts. RPM's drop like 700 RPM going to lockup. Sounds and feels like stock stuff to me... ... ... ... ... Brian

The Stall depends on how much HP you have.

I launch my truck at 2,700RPM. About 100-200RPM on the 1-2, then lock up right when going into 3rd.

Merrick

P. S. Soon the truck will have better power, and I know I will be able to stall out at 3,000RPM

Had a Goerend Converter in my 99' and I put about 30k of pulling a 12k lb trailer.

Great converter. It was a tight converter and I could throw stall numbers out and be wrong so I won't, but it was a good 4-500 rpm tighter in stall.

Just TRADED the truck and whomever buys it won't have a clue it has a Triple Disk Goerend converter in it... . Shoulda kept the converter i suppose.

Call dave and he should be able to give these numbers off the top of his head! I tried to do the brake gas thing but the rear wheels broke loose. A guess it was a brake stand. I allways wanted to due tihs growing up but a VW bus just would not do it!

Dave has all kind of neat stuff in the front of their shop that allows him to test and read all this number stuff.

Some slicks, some track bite, and some liberal use of the parking brake will help that. You will probably find the full stall, and then . 5 second later find the breaking point of the internals. A Billet input/output shafts are a MUST for stall tests, and even that is not a guarentee!

Merrick

Lots of questions posed and I will try to answer with my minimal 10k miles experience and my memory.

Trany life should be very good.

My stock trany at 100K was in very good shape but showing signs of right foot abuse. The converter lockup clutch was burned off and the output hub extremely worn and neither would have lasted many more miles. Dave was very surprised my cover wasn't burned due to the lockup clutch condition.

A complete trany rebuild from Goerend's is top notch. I had a complete rebuild because the extra cost was very minimal.

Dave does NOT endorse any locked 1-2, 2-3, or 3-4 shifts in a 47 series transmission. The clutch system is not designed for that abuse.

I have a very tight converter on my request due to anticipated hp levels. I have not nor do I intend to do a stall test. WOT drops are under well under 500 rpm. The higher the engine rpm the lower the drops at shift points due to a little trick Dave learned in milling the converter to get tighter fluid coupling as the rpms increase. Shifts at partial throttle require more torque multiplation. A 3rd to lockup (OD switched off) or 4th to lockup rpm drop is minimal. Some of this is stator and some is another trick Dave learned to get lockup cluch action faster.

Yes, Dave uses milled stators. I get great torque multiplication and outstanding fluid coupling from a milled stator. He is also developing more options for extreme applications.

I have a modified valve body and shifts are very crisp. I can (manually) lock the converter in all forward speeds. The VB also gives added cooler flow.

Merrick made an interesting comment on stall speed. I switched to a #4 plate with a stock converter. My HP levels let me drive right through the normal stall rpm. I gained shift rpm but pulled past converter efficiency. I cannot drive past a Goerend TC.

Thanks again Dave.

It should last at least 100K miles.

Dave will build you any stall speed you want. But he drove my truck around for about 1/2 an hour to see what it was doing and get a feel for the vehicle and what I wanted it to do before it ever rolled into the shop.

I've had mine a year and don't know the mileage off hand, but it is a good transmission, and they are great people to work with.

:)
