Thanks, TDR Staff

Just a " heads-up" for guys with a black outerwear on their BHAF.

who's upgraded their turbo

We were doing some playing around with convertors and had Dave make us a custom stator for one. He took is 10 bladed stator, did some tweeks to it and all I can say is TIGHT. In 4LO we couldn't get it above 1450 RPM before the truck just over powered the brakes. We had the 10 bladed stator in the truck before and I thought it was tight. THis is on a 24V and when you put the truck in gear it literally droops almost 200RPM until the idle comes back. If you want a tight converter call Dave and ask him about the convertor he made for Dan in Indiana. Thanks again Dave

Several situations. Street driven with a small charger. I think it would be super for a guy running a stock charger, or a set of twins. Obviously it won't work on an HX60 or a Big brother, but worked just fine on SP66.

And in what situation would you want a tight convertor like that? It would not work on the race track.

Ahh but it does! I have one of the first 6, 10-20 stators that Dave built. Stall speed: 1250rpm! I love it! The limiting factor, you can't just flood the turbo. You'll put the fire out. If you ease into it, the turbo spools and your GONE! My 15. 2@92mph at the strip was with his converter and only around 325hp!

I also think it's great for sled pulling. Your getting the power to the ground earlier, again you have to be careful off the line to not put the fire out. Build a little boost on the line and ease the pedal to the floor!

Most of these loose stator converters you are up out of the torque band when the sled really drags you down at the far end of the track. At the far end it downshifts, in the power band, and even with my 325hp, has been known to spin all 6tires, or break a driveshaft!

Granted this is only my opinion, as I have only drag raced with a Suncoast converter, I didn't get to sled pull with it. I didn't like it.

I don't necessarily know if the stall speed is 1250, cause I can get mine to right at 1900 in 4LO, over that on the HI side of the transfer. Of course those speeds are building boost. If you just tromp it, it does stop around the 1350 mark until you have built some boost.

Mine is one of the first that Dave made... . and he's asked me multiple times if I want to loosten it up. For now I like it as is.

I don't think Dave goes that low with the stall speeds anymore.

If you watch the IRP video that Yohoot made the green truck that tries to light the tires, can't then comes back and does it... . that's another of Dave's 10-20 Converters. I believe he's one of the first 10 as well.

Yep I noticed the same thing with my goerends tight converter. My 97 is totally stock. If I ease into the throttle it goes like a raped ape, but if I just floor it I get a big turbo lag. I had mine done tight also as I plan on turning up the power but have not gotten around to that YET... ... ... ... . Brian

My convertor is tighter than stock, but not as tight as Josh's. Still had no problem pulling out a stuck Volvo that had a tri-axle lowboy behind it at just above idle in low range. :D Oo. Oo. He had locking diffs, too, and still couldn't move in the snow. I was on dry pavement and walked him right out. :D

I love doing that. :D

you guys are talking about his 10 blade Dual stator right? I think he has a 8 blade Dual stator as well. The dual stator is the tight one.
