A few months ago I installed my new Georend transmission with his triple disc torque converter. I also installed a shift enhanser. I started running my smarty on TNT #5 after the install. It shifts great. This last weekend I was towing my 7K travel trailer and while at almost WOT the TQ locked up so hard that all my stuff flew out of the storage cubby below my comfort controls. It would lock up extremely hard almost every time I'd start burning the coals. Also, when it locks hard like that, I can hear thump as it locks. Is this normal for the Georend triple disc TQ?
 
I did the same thing on my 98, there is a spring on the side of the trans that pulls on a lever and if you put that spring on pulling I think to the rear instead of the front (or front instead of rear... one of those two) it creates to much pressure under load. I actually cracked my trans housing this way.
 
There are no springs on the side of the 48RE's. It's all internal and it was a completely built transmission. My questions is, is this normal for a Georend triple disc TQ?
 
No it's not normal. Mine has done the exact same thing before. It was the electric servo motor on the upper drivers side of the transmission (that took the place of the springs and cables of days gone by) stuck in one position. Mine threw a code on the dash after it did it a couple times. Also once I pulled ot a wire on my little shift enhancer box and it shifted crazy hard. Also threw a check light almost instantly that time though. Call Dave if he doesn't answer leave a message. He'll call back with in a day usally. He'll ask a lot questions about your truck and what its doing untill he gets to the bottom of the problem.
 
it's not shifting hard through all the gears. It's just locking up really hard at WOT. I mean REALLY hard. Enough to make a thunk and cause all the stuff to fly out of my storage cubby. Only seemed to happen when I was pulling my travel trailer too. Unloaded, I can't get it to duplicate.
 
I've been back to my shop after installing there parts and have got NO answers from either I would not do this again the total lack of support from the manufactor and the shop has left me in the cold and still have a P1740 code that SHOWS up three or four times a week customer service at this point sucks. I was told that they would investagate and call back, its been about a month with NO call back and no answers to the problem or the the repair GOOD LUCK!
 
I talked to Dave Georend and got my problem figured out. I was towing in tow/haul mode which locks up the TQ in 3rd then shifts while locked in 3rd to 4th. For a split second, with a single disc TQ, the TQ unlocks for the shift then locks right up again. The tripled disc takes more time to unlock. So really what was happening is that the TQ couldn't unlock fast enough for the shift from 3rd to 4th at WOT. So it would lock, shift from 3rd to 4th, THEN unlock and lock again. How do I solve this probem? Turn off the tow haul mode during high acceleration requirements while towing then turn it back on while cruising.
