I am looking to upgrade my transmission to a goerend built transmission, however I am unsure if I should bite the bullet and get the billet input shaft and flexplate. I plan on upgrading to a smarty and possible turbo in the future and don't want to have to do another transmission in the future.

I think it would be a good idea. I have seen fatigued and cracked input shafts on stock trucks. If you ever plan on doing boosted launches, pulling, or even messin around on the street, a flexplate would be a good idea as well.

a transmission something you want to do one time so i would say if you have the extra cash, upgrade without a doubt. both the input and flexplate are really weak links. Dont hold me to this but in my area i think that dodge doesnt even warranty a broken input shaft.

Definitly, if you can afford it, go for billet. Otherwise if it breaks, you'll have to pull the trans again and have it put in. I broke my input and flywheel. Yup, pull it to do input, then pull it to do flywheel. If I had it to do over again, I'd do it rite the first time.

Here is another way of looking at it. If your imput shaft breaks you will not go anywhere. Also if you have a whoops or man maybe I should of not did that then you will be happy you went with the billet. As stated above go with it and you won't look back. And yes I did a billet imput & a 3 disk conv. Before my trans went in I had the same thought I do not want to pull this out again anytime soon.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Didn't have the $$$$ for any billet or the laminated flexplate when Dave did mine. Wanted to, but not having the money or able wait anymore was the problem.

Dave does weld a reinforcing plate on the stock flexplate. So far, I haven't had an issue. Trans had all new OEM shafts put in it. Still going strong with all of my fueling mods after 34k miles.

Talk to Dave about it. More than likely you were gonna be getting a new input shaft anyway. The reinforced flexplate should be fine if your gonna be conservative.

Yes, Dave can set you straight on the parts you will NEED for your intended power and useage. He very well knows the limits of stock parts so be real honest about your intended power increase. I believe he will say that around 500 hp will need a billet input and flexplate. And around 550 will need the output. 600+ or 25,000 lbs will want the intermediate shaft. Dave is a super honest guy and will not sell you anything you don't need for you expected use/power, and honor a warranty. I don't think anyone will find a better guy to deal with than Dave Goerend... there may be some equal to him but I just don't think it possible to get any better.
