I am going to take the rivits out of the stock plate and reverse it and put screws in so the flat side is against the govenor lever. This should give me alot more fuel and I can still adjust it back and forth in its slots. I'm guessing a 0 plate is flat? I don't want to grind it flat incase I ever need the stock plate again and I will retain the case hardening.

I probably should have done what you said.....

At least I got my camplate in... that's all that counts!

Mr. BenchGrinder got a workout on the stock plate... . :-laf

About a year ago I took the bench grinder to my plate... . :D but back then it wasnt the thing to do;) so I didnt say anything... sure would like to know what she is doing for HP. The plate is probably in the neighborhood of a #5. 5, cant say for sure but it works:D ... EGTs have never been much of a problem, the highest Ive seen while pulling is 1350 (37foot fifth wheel 'loaded'-6% grade,65mph) so... ..... Ive thought about makeing a flat plate too... but thats for another time... when I have more time.

the only thing i would advise against is having a flat plate.

you are on the right track but dont make it flat. it needs a tapper somewhere around 12-15 degrees would be nice.

you need the nose in it as well. this will allow the truck to spool a little before packing in the fuel. you would render your AFC useless. think about this, if you take the nose off. when the truck is at idle and you accelerate you will hit the AFC stop for a few seconds, then it will move back and allow the lever to follow your plate. on the way back down you will induce the AFC stop again but too fast. the lever will travel down the tapper of the AFC stop and then possibly catch or at least stagger on the hook part of the AFC stop before coming back onto the face of it. a flat plate will result in instant RPM's with a very slight movement of the throttle lever. as in a half inch of travel from idle to WOT. this will play havick on an automatic transmission and its shift pionts too. think about the TB cable, it is designed to travel 2-3 inches. now you need lockup and shift points all in a half inch of travel. wont happen :D

if you are going to do it, do this;

take you plate out, looking from the bottom up you see it is deeper for about a 1/4" and then comes back out. first smooth the edge on the transition point from flat to the tapper coming out. next, go past the outer most point (up) from there you see a small tapper heading back in on the plate, keep that same angle and grind up and in on the plate, until you have a groove that is not more than 12mm deep into the plate. round that tapper to come back out and up a little further and your done. take it in small steps the steeper the angle the longer the time for the fule to come on. these plates really hava a ton of tunning time in them and are worth the money to buy one. just get a #4 or bigger, you can always let off :D

you wont want alot of fuel on the top end of the rpm range. it will increase Egt's and ruin your mileage.

so, the farther up the plate the higher rpm you fuel into

the deeper into the plate the more you fuel.

now get to grinding :D

Chris,

we/they/Joe were not trying to tell you, not to not run a plate to save sales from plummeting. first of all, lets think about how to build power.

if you pour on the fuel and "quinch" the engine, what happens?

if your rack travel is so great you come up against the "S" plate what happens? if you choke the turbo at high rpms what happens? if you mislead an unsuspecting member and he smokes his truck or transmission what happens? if you pull apart a pump and put it back together uncalibrated what happens? (HEE, HEE, that one still makes me chuckle, "just crack injectors lines until you find the weak one")

"MAYBE" (mebby, LMAO)someone gets upset and their truck doesnt run so good, any more. for someone that doesnt own any of the proper tooling to work on one of these trucks you sure know alot about how to tune one for performance. are you just lucky that way? hey did you know, Extrude honed injectors can be made out of just about anything? a shim here a shim there a little media here not so much there. viola!!

My dad gave me some good advice years ago. he said "when the old folks talk, shut up and listen"

Thanks for the info Todd. I have a standard trany on it now even thoug the engine originally came with an auto so I dont have to worry about the TPS.

i can't get anybody to answer this question,

is a "0" plate not flat? whats the difference in the 0 and a flat plate?
