My 89 CTD at first start-up of the day takes about 6-10 seconds, used to take 2-5. After reaching normal operating temp (190) it will go dead every now and then, usually when stopping, then taking 15-30 seconds to start. Does this 4-5 times a day. Use the truck to pull a trailer for my lawn service. Alot of in-town driving. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A few things come to mind here. Is the starter turning the motor at rated speed? do you have air getting into the system? is your lift pump working ok? is your fuel filter ok? is your idle speed set right? is your shut off solinoid working or is there metal particals in around the plunger? are your injectors pluged up? are the heaters working? did you remember to put fuel in it?

to just name a few

Starter speed seems to be fine.

If air was getting in the fuel lines wouldn't it be a constant problem??

Is the heater grid needed with air temps in the 80's and 90's with engine temp @ 190???

I thought the lift pump was used only during start up and that after startup the injector pump was used to provide fuel????

Idles 700-800 RPM.

My 95 had the fuel solinoid problem, it wouldn't start after it was turned off with the key.

It's got fuel so that would narrow it down to the fuel filter.

THANKS for the info.

John
