I have 25,000 miles on my truck at this point. I am taking it into the dealer on Monday because it has an unusual amount of Blue Smoke when I start it after sitting for about 8-10 hours. A post that I put on earlier today recieved a reply suggesting that it might have a leaking injector. When I called the dealer they didn't hesitate at all to that suggestion.

What else if anything should I have checked at this point?

Maybe Ball Joints?

It pulls to the right pretty bad, will they do anything about this?

I am taking mine to the dealer Wednesday for a similar problem as well. I started getting the smoke on start up at about 17,000 miles. I am now at 19,000 miles. I noticed heavy smoke while driving in traffic about a month ago. I didn't intend to smoke the car behind me but when I looked in the rearview to change lanes I could hardly see his headlights. I have also noticed slower response when I hit the Go Pedal. ????

I asked about getting the injectors tested and they(the dealer) told me they HAVE to call STAR and describe the problem then STAR will let them know what to do and how to check this or that. We will see.

I remembered someone posting in a thread a couple months ago about a similar problem and the #3 and #6 injectors had to be replaced. I cant find the thread with the post now.

I am also going out of town and will not be able to post my results/ response from the dealer until next Tuesday. I will let you know what happens.

Good luck with getting your truck fixed I will post next week as soon as I find out what is wrong. I don't think anything serious. A leaking injector should be easy to fix, hopefully that is all it is, since they said they would pick up the tab for a rental car for me for one day. Have you had any other problems to this point with your truck? Mine has been trouble free except for having the computer reflashed for the mileage calculator problem.

to me it seems all the blue smoke/white smoke issues are with the new 600's engines... they have that 3rd stage injection event which will make it smoke... DC should make an ecm reflash to disable the 3rd stage until a set point coolent temp is reached... that would limit the smoke, but that would also make it easy to tamper with the 3rd stage, as tricking the ecm to thinking the engine is cold, would disable the 3rd event [better fuel economy maybe?]

i really should take some vid clips of the loco's at work starting when the engine is cool, they blow white/blue smoke a solid 12"x24" out the stack and it billows down like a mushroom cloud when it hits the roof... and it is normal for the units to do that... and i suspect the white smoke at startup is pretty normal for the 600 engines with the 3rd event injection - the nature of dumping fuel into a cool combusion chamber where it won't be burned completely

Smoke from a diesel is normal. Injectors leaking are not. I had one. When you drive you vehicle everyday for months and 7500 plus miles and then one day it starts doing something different you find out why. There was no question that the injector was leaking deisel into the cylinder after it was shut off and cooled down. It made a very ugly smoke on cold startup and ran/idled rough until the extra fuel was burned off. Dealer and Star agreed. Has not done that in the 15,000 miles since the injector was replaced.

BTW, I don't mind the black smoke that the HOT Juice makes until the turbo catches up with my foot.
