Hey guys and gals,

I have a need of assistance. Lately I have been experiencing what sounds like (if I were a dog) a VERY hitch pitch squeel while driving.

Usually only happens when the truck has been sitting, (no specific amount of time), and when accelerating up to about 20-30mph and happens so fast and loud it's hard to pinpoint.

Happening about once or twice a day?

Anyone got any ideas?

I had an A/C compressor clutch that did this once. Two of the three springs that hold the plate off the pulley when not engaged had broken and the plate was dragging on the pulley. Next time it happens just flip the A/C off and see what happens.

I'll give that a shot. Ac seems to work fine though. Is it pretty easy to change compressor clutch or will I be looking into a new compressor and ac work?

The issue I was talking about won't affect the A/C functions and it actually made the noise when the compressor was NOT engaged, so turning it OFF won't help you. Just see if you notice whether the A/C is on or off when it does it.

It's likely not your issue anyway, just thought I'd mention it since it's easy to test. The clutch should be available separately from the compressor.

So to come back to what BigPapa said , I have been driving with the AC off today and hasn't made the noise yet. In the morning I will continue to drive it until it starts to hit the high 90's and then run with the compressor on and see what Happens. If it happens s again I'll know it's the ac compressor and that's good enough for me.
