Twice in 6 months i've lost the same seal on the passenger side of my front diff. I'll have to tear this one down the end of this week.

Is there something i'm missing? I thought I had this one in square because it's held close to 8000 miles. I don't get it. The only other thing I can figure is an offroading incident last week but it was dry- no contaminates.

Is there anything I can check for? Any way I can check the tube for straightness? It's such a pain to replace this thing too. :{

The only thing I can think of is, are you putting 5oz of oil in the CAD housing after install. You put the oil in through the indicator switch hole. If not the seal is running dry until oil can work it's way from the center section to oil it and the seal is shot by then.

I didn't do that And I thought about it almost two weeks after the install. I'd say you're right and it finally caught up with me.

Also, there isn't anything actually supporting that end of the axle that I remember. Does the collar ride on the outside or inside shaft when disengaged? If it rides on the outside I guess that is what supports it. It will make sense to me when I get into it thursday. 5oz. is it? I shouldn't just fill it completely? I lubricated the seal and axle last time I installed it but I'm guessing that was insufficient.

Thanks for keeping my stupidity in check :)

Kyle.

The inner axle rides on a bearing in the inner half of the axle tube. The inner axle has a pin on the end that fits in the center of the outer axle which is what supports it. I don't remember which axle (inner or outer) the shift collar rest on when not engaged. Well if it wasn't for that stupid center support bearing holding the oil back you would of been all right. Hope it all works out for you.
