Good article on Fram Oil filters testing I found in Jeep forum

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Has anyone installed a block heater cord at the rear?

This could be alright for a Ford or a Lexus but; I will never use one on my diesel engines ever. I will stick with the Fleetguard Strataporo oil filter and VW filters for my vehicles.

I would also search for the TDR magazines article by John Martin on why the Fleetguard Stratapore is the best oil filter for your Cummins engine.

Jim W.

I would check out issues 71 that is on-line and you can read John's comments.

I wonder if Fram told him about all the 5.9's they bought after the piston cooling jets plugged up with filter media? Snoking

Mike Wilson proved that Fram makes certain oil filters for Amsoil. So either that proves Fram's quality has improved, or maybe Amsoil's standards aren't what some people would like to believe.... :D

I personally use Donaldsons ELF 7349 filter for the Cummins, and Mann filters on the TDI.

I don't know about Fram one way or the other. Sounds like they are making a good effort to reclaim their image. Thought folks would find the article interesting.

Back when I bough my first Ram , a 98 diesel I used Mobil-1 on filters. I've never heard anything but praise for them. On my 06, I started the Stratapore while the warranty was in effect. Now I use either.

nice testing that filter won't blow up! How about filtering and restriction? Here's my story, other car is 1948 Ford with flathead 8 all rebuilt by me, changed to a full flow oil system has presure gauge on the filter head normally use Wix 1515 filter tried a fram ph8 oil presure was lower about 3psi at idle new filter so what happens when it gets dirty? will nver know use only Wix on the Ford and Cummins!! Had a conversation today with a coworker. He mentioned the only problem he had with his 05' CTD was an oil filter blew out about 1yr ago. I asked "Was it a Fram?". He was quiet for a moment on the phone. He admitted to Fram because the store near his house stocked them.

Video is no longer there. What I didn't like about a Fram was they never used a spring loaded by pass, just a plate was used and when the pressure was high it would bend the plate and it now was free flowing. Most people didn't know this. Unless it has now changed I have not seen any thing on this currently. How ever it was shown to this audience when the filters and oil information was given to us through the TDR. I thank them for there effort to educate us.

Also get shipped Mack filters in error on occasion from the same plant....just sayin'. Mack colors, Mack Part Number right on them.

Exactly. But Fram is not alone in doing so. I've seen many brands that won't stand a stuck oil pressure relief valve on a cold morning. It is not exclusive to Fram.

I am not promoting Fram, none on any of my vehicles. I use Fleetguard on the two CTD's, Mopar on the Mini-Vans and AC/Delco on Hoopty.

BUT I sell cases of them and have now for 15 years. One issue in all that time. And I'm not sure it was the filter's fault. I turned it over to Fram technical and heard no more.
