Doing a little truck work this evening, changing the oil and fuel filter. The last time I changed the oil filter I tightened it a half turn after it touched, I could not get the old filter off today, I dented it with the strap wrench I usually use. So I had to push the truck out of the way so I could take my wifes car to Wal Mart for a filter wrench, I took the new Fleetguard filter with me so I would be sure to get the right one. They had a Stride tool Tru Grip wrench rated for 140#s of torque for $2. 99. The wrench cup has a metal insert for the socket, got the filter off in a couple seconds. Good tool the model was a type Q, 93mm 15 flutes.

Then I changed the fuel filter, piece of cake the filter looked pretty dirty for 10K miles though, it also looks like it has white dots on the media that may be areas where the filtration is not as high, has anyone else noticed this? The old filter was a Fleetguard. Here is a picture.

I had my truck in for a few warranty matters and asked if I should get the fuel filter changed yet. They told me to wait until 12,000 miles. Im now at 9,000. I think Im going to order severil from Genos and just do it myself, since they want $60 at the dealer for this service.

If you order the 4/2 or the 4/2/1 kit from Geno's you will save a bunch more :D :)

Nope. It's a filter socket that fits on a 3/8" drive ratchet. Like Bertram65 said, it's a pretty good tool, especially for the cheap price.

I still want one of JHardwick's oil filter sockets. Actually, I have the money order, just need to get it in the mail.

The white spots are actually pressure detents from the mfg. process. There is no flow through those points hense no discoloration. Mike
