Hey guys

Found a 01. 5 2500 4x4 white slt 3. 55 ho 6spd. It is perfect other than behind the pass. rear tire there is a good size dent where it looks like someone smacked a pole. Looks like its 3/8 inch deep and pretty low down so not too bad. However, it has a #55 on the passenger side of block... Is that a good block or a bad one? any info will help. Couldnt find much searching thru posts. also, its got a spray in liner and brake controller, other than that it is stock. called DC to check on prior warrenty work. Truck was sold on 7/7/2001 at mayes county dodge in pryor, Oklahoma. Its only warrenty work was done by the same dealer and they replaced the clutch master cylinder at 32K. The selling dealer is also in the same town as it was taken in as a trade in. DC also told me its got the heavy duty package which i think means the 241HD trans case??? Its got 63k miles and the dealer wants 19,900 for it with a free 6 month powertrain warrenty, and the price can be worked down to 19,000 or 19. 5 i think. .

is that a good deal or do any of you think there is a different reason other than the dent that needs fixing that this truck is low in price?

#53, not 55, was the bolck that is cursed by some, mainly those that have had it crack on them. AS for the rest, I'm having trouble focusing my train of thought (allergies, head cold, etc), so I will just say if you like the truck, and can live with the price, go for it. I'd pass on the warranty- most of the time they are a rip off. (watch, he'll skip the warranty, and need $3K of work in the next month  ). On 2nd thought, go your own way on the warranty. :)

This does not sound like too bad of a deal. I am assuming it is a Quad Cab. Have them check the fuel pressure and replace the lift pump if needed. Good luck with it.

Jay

Hey guys. Yes it is a quad cab. Its a 6month 6k mile powertrain warranty for free. I got the dealer down to 19k today. It that a really good deal? It seems like it to me. Well i prob will pass on the warranty since it still has the cummins 5/100 on it. Doesnt that warranty cover the vp44 and the lift pump??

Well anyways, thanks and if anyone knows anyone around tulsa ok area that will go examine this truck, i will pay you, please let me know!!!

How do you check the fuel pressure on these trucks?

BobHall,

He talked them down $900 to give it to him w/o the warranty; hence the "free" warranty actually added $900 to the cost of the truck. Turned out to not be free after all. No flame intended; just expalining my point of view.

Now if he can still get the warranty, and for the $19K, that may be something. Just make sure what the deductible is, and what is covered. Been There Done That with the aftermarket warranty; wasnt all it was cracked up to be.

dpuckett,

I agree completely. If he can get the price down by passing on the warranty, then it wasn't "free".

His last post (after mine) still isn't clear if the lower price is with or without the warranty.

If he can get the lower price =and= the warranty, then he should go for it. I don't see how even a bad warranty could be worse than no warranty. (Talking powertrain here, since he said the engine warranty is still good. )

Good! Neither one of us was flaming! :D :D :D

Sorry i might have confused you guys. I talked the salesman down to 19k and that still includes the 6month 6k mile warranty. It only covers all powertrain items and it has a 100 dollar deductable. I'm sure i wont use it, its just piece of mind. I still do have the 5/100 cummins warranty :) does anyone know what the deductable is on that?

erik

What have you guys paid for your used CTD, this will help me figure how good of a deal im really getting

Get this in 2001, the first day it was registered, was my birthday, maybe it was fate;)

Nah... You ain't seen confused YET!!! ;)

It's great that you still get the warranty. Hopefully you won't need it but you never know.

I'm sorry I can't help you on used truck prices or your particular flavor of Cummins warranty. I bought new and I'm sill within the 36k bumper-to-bumper warranty.

From what I've read around here, it sounds like you're getting a good deal, but only if it's the truck you want with all or at least most of the features you want.

I just baught a 96 12v w/ 64k on it for 18000 including tax and lic. I shopped for over 2 months and was only able to find a handful of 4x4's. All the 4x4's that I looked at where from the years 97-2001 w/ an avarage of 95k-120k on them, the lowest price that I found for 2001 4x4 was 24,000$ and the truck had 110,000 miles on it. So I think your getting a pretty good deal. :)

GOOD LUCK with your pruchase. and I hope you enjoy your new CTD

Greg

Sounds like a good deal to me as well, I just bought a 95 CTD 4x4 straight cab with 65K original miles from a dealer and paid 10,500 for it. Real nice truck and no vp44 to deal with. Go for it. You will love the cummins engine. Cheers Mike

I bought my '99 2500 QC 4x4 in 11/2002. It has 5 speed, leather, CD, all the buttons, and came with 89,000 miles. She has a dent on the rear fender and front bumper and needed new shoes. Got it for $18,000 from a DC dealer. So, you are definitely getting a good deal for $19,000.

In 2000 I bought my '95 for $16,000 but it had about another $5,000 worth of Bombs and Mods on it. I got it with 57,000 miles on the odom, and have put another 90,000 miles on it with NO problems.

If that truck you are looking at has gone 63,000 miles with very few problems I'd say it was a keeper! I would still try to get a TDR member to go look at it though, and also try to find out if mainenance was done at the proper times.

If I'd had a 6 month 6k warranty with mine when I bought it used I wouldn't have had to fight with the dealer to get the motor replaced when it blew. I could tell ya the story but I'll save it for another time.

Just never buy a truck from Raupe Truck Sales in Haysville Kansas.

IMHO take the extra warranty if it isn't going to cost you anything.
