Good diesel on trip Reno-Monterey

 I`m driving to Monterey from Reno. On Hwys 80 to 680 to 101. I have stock tank so I know that I`ll need to fuel up some where safe. My maiden journey with our Montana :D 5th wheel.

Thanks to all.

Sorry, where to buy fuel.

Stop off I-80 around Vacaville or Fairfield after the I-505 merge but before getting on I-680. Top off there and you'll easily reach Monterey.

The trip downtown-to-downtown is 317 miles. The I-680 split is at 177 miles of the 317, only 140 to go after that.

I know your route very well. Unfortuniity there is no truck stop or other good place to fill up. You have two choices: Dixon or Cordilla (Camper World) Both are regular gas stations that are OK if there isnt a lot of traffic. Once you get off of I80 heading south there is no where to fill up until your south of San Jose. Good luck

There is a Vallejro (sp?) station in Scotts Valley just north of Santa Cruz that would be pretty easy in and out with a fiver. If you take the north exit off HWY 17, it will be on the right as you come through town. If you pull out and turn right through town, it is easy to get back to 17 at the south exit. If you need a stopover spot, the Santa Cruz Ranch RV Park in Scotts Valley is very nice. Don't plan on taking your fiver downtown in Santa Cruz. The streets are so narrow and tight, I rarely even take the dually to town. The transition from HWY 17 to HWY 1 can be a bugger with traffic depending on the time of day you hit it. From Scotts Valley, it is about 40 miles to Monterey.

Good luck and watch out for the crazy drivers... ..... Steve

As I recall there is a Exxon truck stop in West Sacramento right where I 80 & 50 come together/apart. They always had better pricing than the Fairfield/Vacaville area. I think you will find diesel to be quite high in the Fairfield area... .

Have a good trip!

Try this web site:

You need zip codes for the areas of interest. Plug in a zip code and it returns a map and a list of stations in that zip (mostly gasoline but some diesel). Google :zipcodes" and you'll come up with websites for that.

We came up I-5 three weeks ago but fuel prices shot up just as we got home. Diesel at Fred Meyer in Salem, Or, with a Freddie's card was $2. 52 or so on April 3rd, next day in Klamama, WA, normally the cheapest along that stretch, was $2. 04 and $2. 99! Woof...

There is a book available at some bookstores and truck stops called "Exit Authority" that lists the services at every exit. We never leave home without it. My GPS also gives all the truck stops but my wife finds the "Exit Authority" easier to use. It's saved our bacon a few times when we were low on fuel and didn't know where the next place to get fuel would be. While towing we always use truck stops since it's so much easier to get in and out of them. Nice advantage to owning a diesel truck.
