Goodyear MTR's

All, I've read many topics about people putting on oversized tires, what will fit etc. One of the most popular sizes being the 315's. One the questions that I have is are people putting these on stock Dodge wheels? If so, then is it safe to assume that they are the 16" wheels, since I can't find anyone who makes a 315 for the 17" wheel? I did find out that Goodyear has one of their MT/R's that come in 305/70 R17. Will they fit on a stock wheel and clear lock to lock(steering)? Will they clear with a leveling kit? What I would like to do if possible is to get these and keep the stock 17" wheels since I don't have the money right now for everything, and then just eventually put on the leveling kit, but I need advise from the masters, so any and all input is welcomed.

While I'm no master, I do have 305/70/17 MTR's on after alum rims and love them to pieces! These tires will probably only get 25000 miles but wow the traction they get! I highly recommend them.

Thanks for the reply. Did you have to put on a leveling kit to get them to clear or anything? Also how are they on the highway, wet dry, snow, etc?

I had a set of MTR's on the Durango 4x4 I traded for the RAM. They will last a lot longer then 25K miles as long as they are not abused and rotated every 5 to 6 thousand miles. I had about 30K on the tires (including off-road) when I traded it in and there was about 75% tread left on them.



How this wear will translate to the heavier Ram I can not tell you. My Durango weighed in just over 5K.

That's a whole lot better, 30K with 75% tread left. That's great.

Don't count on it ain't gonna happen. You'll be doing good to get 60K on MT/Rs. 50k or so is avg.

don't forget a durango weighs about 4000 and the truck is over 6000

since I can't find anyone who makes a 315 for the 17" wheel

the 317/70/17 tires that folks here are using are BFGoodrich all terrains. that tire is the factory stock tire on that new hummer h2 fyi...

I went up almost 5" to fit the 315's on with no rubbing off the road. I mounted them on 16X8's. They are rated @ 3195# @ 50PSI times 4 tires thats over 12,000 pounds

I had some MTRs on my '01. Nice tires! The road noise was not bad for such an aggressive tire, but you will notice some noise. The MTRs are probably the best looking, best 17” traction tire in snow and mud out there, in my opinion. I placed some BFG 285's AT KOs on my new '03. The BFGs handle a bit better on the road than the 285 MTRs on my '01, but it's a different truck as well and the BFGs are not NEARLY as aggressive. I can't really say if the BFGs are any less noisy. I'm not saying the BFGs are a bad tire, they are pretty good as well. I'll probably go with the MTRs as my next set of tires on my '03.
