I have the Goodyear GSA tires on my 03 dually with 30k mi.

I have noticed small cracks in the sidewalls running parallel with rotation for some time. I recall a post regarding someone who was able to trade theirs in for new ones because of this.

Does anyone have any experience or know of this?

Also, could I run BFG 265 or 285 without a lift? I assume I would need a spacer for the rear duals.

Yes,I had the same problem the Goodyear salesman called them weather cracks. The truck was 4 monthes old and had less than 5000 miles. He called Goodyear and they had him measure the tread depth then warranted all 7 tires. With 30,000 on yours they will probably try to prorate the warranty. I have 12,000 on the truck now and the new tires have not shown any weather cracks.

On the 265 tires there are two guys out here running the maxxis buckshot mud tires on their stock dually wheels with no spacers there is about a 1 1/2 clearance on the rears. They look good and they have not had any problems but I believe these tires call for an 8" wide wheel.

Yep. same thing here, around 30k I noticed it on my front tires. At 41K took it in to Goodyear and was told that it was because of the steering action of my front tires !!!!!! :--) Damn , I thought, all my other vehicles have front tires that steer also, never had this happen though. So being the great people that Goodyear are, they warranteed them and 6 new ones only cost me $975, how f'n nice of them ,huh? Have 17k on new ones and no cracks (YET). When replaced, the fronts had 60% tread left and the rears had 45% .

Man thats gotta hurt!Mine are almost bald at 25000 and it is goin back to DC and see if they will replace them. I know they should get at least 50000 miles out of them.

Mine had them at 3k. goodyear warrantied them. Now I have 10k, don't drive the duallie much, and they have about 1/2 tread left. 50k!!! I hope to get 20k. The backs are more worn than the fronts. I will get coopers next time.

hmmm I got 98,000 out of my first set, they developed the weather cracks after about 20,000 but didn't get so bad I was worried, second set have about 55,000 on em now, still about 1/2 tread and developed weather cracks on stears by the end of each rotation, these things apperantly can't handle the side stress of heavy front ends but the tread lasts just fine if you aren't constantly hot dogg'n it

hagar, did you have the Goodyear GSA's that everyone is talking about here? Or something else? Also, what I had were not "weather cracks", these were big cracks/ tears in the sidewalls!!

Mine didn't have the large cracks that I've seen here, just small weather checks, and I replaced them at 51k. Not too bad in my opinion for about 50% heavy towing. Stock GY GSA's and that's what replaced them.

I checked every dealer I could think of in town and decided to go with the stock GSA's again. Dishman Dodge was $400 cheaper than Les Schwab and had them off the coast in 2 days. $1300 for 6 mounted, balanced and installed. I looked at all of the options that I could find. The RSA's were too much of a highway style for my multiple uses and all the others I located had RWL's which I can't stand. Just my personal preference. Good all season tire that got me home from Alaska in the dead of winter.

Well lets see, this thing won't brake the rears loose and is empty most of the time, most of the driving is on hwy,and did i menition it won't break the rears loose!:{ . All the other trucks would get at least that much or more out of them(unless i spent to much time at the track!)had Pep Boys wondering how the tires were bald at 7500 miles! Those cheap PB tires stick on the track pretty good!!:-laf

I think it all has to do with where you live and what the truck is used for. Like I said I hope to get 20k. I don't drive the truck unless I have something heavy to haul in it. And I live on winding roads that have high speed limits on them. I have gotten as high as 30k out of a set of tires and as low as 12k, I see people that get 50 or even 98k and I can't believe it. I don't drive fast, I don't spin the tires. I have what I would call a commuter truck in the 2500. Mostly drive the 50 miles to work and the 50 miles back, I get about 25-30k out of the cooper discoverers, on my 3rd set. The truck has 110k on it. I have even wear all around, but I don't rotate. Did it with the stock LTXs and got about 19k out of them and decided not to waste my time.

But if there is some secret to getting long mileage out of tire I surely don't know it. This is my 3rd dodge truck and my 6th chrysler product not including other foreign cars and trucks and I have never gotten very many miles on a set of tires living where I live.

I have just over 30k on my GSA'S and have about half the tread left. I've only rotated them once, and over 10k mi, I have carried a heavy camper. The tires seem ok, but after putting the BFG AT KO's on my jeep, the performance in the snow is great. I will put the BFG's on the Dodge next. Would like to go up to 265 or 285's, but not sure how they will work with the dually. Anyone done this?

Yep, same tires and those big tears start out looking like weather cracks, that's what the dealership called it when I brought the truck in and asked about it, when I had the first set replaced 2 of the tires still had useable tread and I only replaced em due to the cracking.

If you're looking for new tires try Discount tire, they got em for me at about half the price the dealership wanted.

2 things counted for me getting the mileage I did, 90% of my driving was hyway hauling rv's and I run my tires at max pressure, it rides much rougher and you lose a little traction but the tires last much longer.

I went straight to Goodyear with mine, think everyone knows what my opinion is of the "DEALERSHIP" , hell those bozo's couldn't even figure out how to make my cab clearance lights leak!!!! I now honestly think they would have a hard time changing a tire on a Neon for Pete's sake !!!
