Goodyear Silent Armor Tires?

I noticed Goodyear is offering LT 285-75-16's in Load Range E. Any experiences out there? I'm ready to ditch these BFG's for something else in Load Range E. Thanks.

I have a friend that has those in 265-75-16 E-rated, for about 25000mi. now and he is very happy. Much better ride,and ever wear.

I put the 285-75-17s on last February and love them. Best ride and handling the truck has ever had. Only about 5k miles on them and they show very little wear. Only time will tell how they last, but so far I wouldn't buy anything else.

BTW, really shop around on prices. I ended up buying mine from the area distributor rather than a generic Goodyear store. Saved about $250 on the set...

I just looked at a set at Discount Tire today. For the 265/75/16 they wanted 191 each plus 15 to mount. Looks like a nice tire but I wonder how they will wear. Unfortunately I want to take some gear out of my 4. 1's and I am going with a 255/85/16 and that really leaves the Toyo M55's for a E load rating. Sounds like Les Schwab is going to have a big sale starting in mid September for all Toyo's... .

Goodyear Silent Armor

Thanks for your input. According to Goodyear's website,Discount Tire and the local Goodyear dealer,the 285-75-16's only come in Load range D. I must have been mistaken. I've got a good price coming on some M-55's. They'll be in on 8-30. Anybody needing some 285-75-16 BFG KO's w/13,000 miles in the San Diego area,p. m. me.

Howdy out there, I drive mountain roads, both dirt and paved. Icy and snow packed 5 months out of the year. My first gen truck is 15 years old. I wore out a new 72 Ford 3/4 ton gasser. 2 trucks, 34 years of driving. In all that time I have never gotten more than 30,000 miles on a set of tires, design and Quality notwithstanding. The best traction was with a set of SEMPRIT All weather Radials (no studs) many years ago. Wish I could get a set of these again. (Busted thru bumper deep snow with no chains!). Uniroyal M-S w/studs were next as far as traction went. Michelin brand were not worth the price. 2 sets of Goodyear; one M&S w/studs-good when new, lost their bite quickly. One set Wrangler; not worth the money. All 235/85-R16 or 7. 50-16, 'E" or 10 ply radials. Still looking, Good tires can be had for under $110 each. Check "Big O" tires.

Bought a set of Silent Armor for my 2004 3/4 4x4 and had them for 2 weeks. They tried to balance them twice and could not get them right. Traded them for a set of Bridgestone and have had them for a couple of months---so far so good--

M-55's

How much for the M55's I need a set in 255/85/16 Les Scwab will have them on sale by the middle of the month for around $200???

I can't really say the price as I'm getting minimal markup. The guy's throwing in a no questions hazard warranty too. I'll ask him a price for 255's. I'm using Express Tire. My local one sucks and I'm using a friend's in a nearby community. I'll p. m. you with a price. Les Schwab can probably beat it if you hand them a competing price from down here. L. S. is Toyo's # 1 dealer.

I got a set of Dunlop Radial Rovers 255/85/R16 for $700 installed... I'm told these are good for about 40-50K... we'll see, I really like the way they handle...

I replaced my Michelin's with the Goodyear Silent Armour M/S LT 265/75R/16E. They were rated very well for severe ice/snow conditions. Last winter I was able to navigate thru the snow in 2wd whereby before I had to use 4x4 under similar conditions.

Wear appears to be ok at this point in time. Approximately 16/32 when new... Now (after about 10K) wear is around 12/32.

I bought a set of -Dunlop radial rover RV xt, one of the only approved tires for full snow use, from Sears. Went on a trip of 3K miles and scrubbed of 3/32

of rubber, on the rear and 2/32 on the front. Could not get a good pressure for handling with a trailer. As any one that tows, nows you must find that pressure that will get away from sway. I never did on that trip. Started @ 60# and went up to 70 psi and there was still away in those tires. they are "E" rated and I was told 40-50K miles tread life.

When I returned from that trip, I took them to the install dealer and they told me, cause the most wear was in the middle of the tire that I was running them over inflated And I told them not over 70 psi and towing a trailer, and have never had a problem with any other tire at that pressure. My take off's were even all across the tread. Sent a complaint to Dunlop, got a reply back from a Goodyear Represenitive of which was not any help. So when they are gone I will look to some other Make. How ever they do have a side wall that does not show the side indentation as most other tires do where the belts are joined. They are on of the quietist tires I have ever used.

My experience with Goodyear tires has been horrible. The worst, an OEM Wrangler, went 59 whole miles before a shoulder failure. My Firestone experience wasn't any better.

Thats too bad Matt, don't let the name discourage you because most manufactures have their good and bad lines. I have seen plenty of crummy Goodyears, usually its an OEM tire that came with the vehicle.



Tires like their AT/S and Silent Armour are premium top of the line stuff that manufactures won't spend the money for.
