Just bought a set of 4 Goodyear Wranger Silent Armor Tires to replace my Michelin M/S tires. I have owned Michelin's for many years, this was the second set on this truck, and have been satisfied. The deciding factor for the switch was that the Goodyear's were rated for "Heavy snow conditions" ( the Michelins more of a All Terrain Tire ) and had a 50K mileage warrenty.

My research prior to changing brands was that the Goodyear's had noise issues and also suffered mileage loss when compared to the Michelins.

My initial take on these new tires was that they felt "heavy" in steering. They are 5 lbs each heavier than Michelins. That said they also felt like they really gripped the road well. My trek over Donner Summit had me dealing with extremely heavy rain which became heavy snow as the altitude increased. They never slipped or even gave the inclination they wanted to slip. Braking was excellent. I am now driving aound on snow/ice in 2 wheel drive whereby if I still had the Michelin's I would be in 4 wheel drive. I feel that secure in the pickup.

I can't address the mileage difference as I spent a considerable amount of time "idleing" as the road was closed for almost 2 hours at the top of Donner Summit. Mileage for the trip ended up being 16. 8 mpg between 2 & 4 wheel drive plus the time spent idleing... for what maybe worth.

The road noise didn't bother me as it had a hard time competing with the Cummins... :-laf

Hopefully the wear factor will live up to the billing.

Thanks for the review, I have that tire as a possible for a next set but won't happen for a long time just yet. I hope they will have an E rated 285 or 295 70R17 by that time.

The Wrangler Goodyear Silent Armor Tire is a new version of the old Wrangler AT/S, has the same tread pattern. The only difference is the new tire has a layer of KEVLAR belting. It is suppose to give a smother ride & run a little cooler. I have a set of the Wrangler AT/S LT265/75 R16 Load Range E & have over 20,000 miles on them & they show very little wear. I pull a 32ft travel trailer with my truck most of the time so I like the way they are wearing. You are right they are great in snow. I travel between Gardnerville, NV & the Bay Area & I usally go on RT 50 or Rt 88 which can get a lot of snow & have had no proglem in the snow. I will run in 2 wheel drive most of the time when in the snow. The noise factor is not bad. Can't hear them over the Cummins. I think you will like them very much. Good Luck.

The tread pattern is not the same as the old AT/S, I will give you similiar, but they are not the same. Go to Tirerack.com, you can get very detailed pictures of both tires.

I did an extensive search on this tire on the web including Tirerack.com. I think Kelvar is the same material that is used in bullet proof vests. Like Jack I have noticed the ability to traverse in 2 wheel drive vs 4 WD when I was using the Michelin's.

I had to drive back to California as the ability to buy these tires in the Carson City area proved to be either 1) Cost prohibitive or 2) Unavailable without a delay of upwards of a month or more.

Looks like there is good demand for this tire for what it maybe worth.

Goodyear is having a bit of trouble financially and thus its hard to get tires. This new one is proving to be quite popular and thus they were not ready for the demand. You should try getting medium truck tires from them :( :( :(
